At the end I had really high blood pressure, cholestasis and was dialated 5cm so they admitted me. The dr broke my water & they were born the following afternoon. I went in for my 38 week check-up and I had elevated bp and other things and my dr said we are having her in the next day or two. We don't know why....lo was breech, so I had a C-section a few hours later...they tried to wait until the next morning but contractions started so they bumped it up. I lost my mucus plug a week before and went to the hospital because I thought my water had broken (turns out it dadn't) but sure enough lo was born a week later. I did have a SCH that was very odd (kept disappearing and reappearing), but that was the only abnormal thing about my pregnancy, and I had no red flags for pre-term labor. Contractions and lost mucous plug (although I didn't know it at the time....I thought it was my water breaking!). Went in the hospital on bed rest and magnesium to give LO a chance to get steroids for her lungs. Delivered LO at 30w5d. I had a very normal uneventful pregnancy. We were totally not ready, but it all worked out! My mom and sister came up and bought tiny clothes for my 5lb baby and opened up all the boxes of gear from my shower and set our whole house up. I'm a major control freak and sort of liked being able to schedule when I was going to give birth. There is no medical benefit to keeping them in longer, and there is a higher risk of fetal distress. I probably could have refused but everyone was so excited & my doctor said that it's better to get the baby out ASAP when you test positive for pre-E so I didn't argue. I kinda wish I had. But DD arrived 4 hours after my water broke & everything went smoothly so no real complaints.
