they did need to redo the epidural (wasn't low enough the first time), but no forceps or vacuum. i felt heavenly once as the epidural started working.

I did not need assistance, but I did tear a little. I think I could have even gotten away without an epidural under normal circumstances, but baby girl was sideways, and my back pain was unbearable.

My sister needed both, though, with an epidural. I feel like she wasn't really trying hard enough though (I was in the room). She was really young and super tired and her epidural wasn't even really working, no matter how many times she pushed that button.

I voted one yes and one no!

My kids both had 99th percentile heads.. but my son's was huge. I had an epidural (long story, but 3 epidurals and a really exhausting labor) and I pushed for 3 hours and he never crowned. They never saw the top of his head. So the doctor placed the vacuum and he popped right out in 3 pushes or so.

Then my daughter (second) was induced and I had an epidural turned to spinal cath (another long story..) with her she was crowning away immediately and I pushed her out in 15 mins! Probably could have pushed her out in the first push but the doctor was still preparing. I couldn't believe she came out so easily after the 3 hours of pushing with my first... she literally just slipped right out with very minimal effort from me.

@Mrs. Champagne: Hah what an exaggeration. PLUS people that for some reason or other need assistance delivering might also elect, for those same reasons, to get an epi. Correlation =/= causation! Fwiw I had an epi and pushed for somewhere between 30 and 45 minutes!

Not even close to needing it. I only pushed for 20 minutes. I don't understand how someone can say such a generalization. All births are completely different and needing an assisted delivery involves so many more variables than a med or med free birth...
