@JoJoGirl: I just saw your question! At my 6 week appointment, the midwife at my OB practice checked to see if I had diastasis. She mentioned that mine was pretty severe and suggested PT. I know many people heal on their own, but I decided to check it out. I've definitely gotten better, but I am not completely healed yet.

@yoursilverlining: Of course! It's mostly a lot of breathing and engaging my core. I actually do something called the Tupler Technique. Feel free to google it. I also wear a bandage/band type thing. I was really improving and then got slack on my exercises. I'm getting better though.

@JoJoGirl: it went from feeling very weak (like nauseous just sitting up from laying down shortly after giving birth) and open, to finally feeling like muscle and the space got much smaller over time.
If I lay on the ground and flex my abs in a crunch, I can still feel the line, but the space isn't deep and isn't wide. In the beginning it was very weak and wide and all soft in the middle, like I was squeezing my guts out through the split (barf!).
Unless I knew what had happened there, now I wouldn't feel a difference. I only know because I'm looking for it now. It's back to 100%.

@BKCaribBaby: If you don't mind sharing, what kinds of exercises do you do at home and PT? Like I said, my stomach is a horror show, so I love any and all ideas for ways to help it get back to normalcy.

I'm interested to see other's responses. My diastasis grew smaller, but was still there. I'm now pregnant with LO #2 and will likely be battling diastasis again this Spring.

@rachiecakes: I remember yours took a year. How did you know it was healing, was it getting smaller?

@BKCaribBaby: How did you know you needed PT?

It has not healed. I am in PT for it. I also do exercises at home. I'm almost 7 months post partum.

@JoJoGirl: took about a year. I could feel it healing at 9 months pp, but it wasn't until the year mark where it felt strong again. I can still kind of feel a ridge there when I flex but nothing at all like it was!

@JoJoGirl: yeah, true! My OB was concerned it might need surgery, but it did heal. I feel like it still feels a little weak, but that might just be lack of core/ab exercises for a year!

Yeah but IT HEALED! I feel like that will be a magical day, if it ever arrives. I'm so jelly.

Mine was 3 fingerwidth and healed on it's own, but not until right around 1 year pp, maybe a little later. I was on strict ab exercise restriction until 1 year pp, so I'm still jelly in the middle (grr).

...what happened after LO was born?

I am almost 6 months pp and still maintain the same 1-2 fingerwidth split I had when pregnant. It doesn't bulge when I work out so know I don't officially have exercise restrictions, but my core is so weak I still can't plank and it doesn't seem to be getting any better. What happened with yours?
