I was put on bed rest at 23 weeks and was out of work for 11 weeks before I even delivered. Luckily I work with my family so I was able to take 14 weeks maternity leave as well. I was lucky for sure!

I'm on sort of modified bedrest/"take it easy" (not strict laying down, I can do a few things but need to spend a lot of time with my feet propped up) for threatened preterm labor. I'm 27 weeks. I'm an attorney and thankfully I can work remotely so I am working full time remotely from home. So, I don't anticipate it affecting my mat leave. That would definitely not work with every job, however!

With #1, I basically had to quit my job and hope there would still be a spot for me when I was ready to come back after having a baby. I was only managing a coffee shop/wine bar, though, so there wasn't exactly a great HR department. There was only 7 or 8 employees so I didn't qualify for much.

With #2, I was put on modified bed rest toward the very end of my pregnancy, but at this point I was doing marketing and communications for a non-profit and was able to work remotely from home. It didn't affect my hours or maternity leave at all.

It's basically sick leave so it has nothing to do with maternity leave. I was out for 17 days before birth and just had to submit doctors notes to get paid for the sick days I had accrued. (I'm a teacher.) Then regular maternity leave kicks in after that.

I think my company has a medical leave, which is different from maternity leave, so I don't think my mat leave will be affected. I need to ask, though.
