I loooooove plantation shutters!</p> <p>When we first moved into our house we were in a rush (and tight budget) so we just grabbed enough of the white plastic blinds. We're slowly doing one room at a time into the white wooden blinds. We get them from Lowes, and they will actually cut them at the store for you so you don't have to mess with them. They're round $35/window for that brand-Levolor.</p> <p>The reason we are doing it one room at a time, other than money, is because in rooms like our bedrooms we keep the curtains closed all the time. So those rooms still have plastic blinds with nice curtains. They have a great custom department, where they measure or you do, and pretty much anything can be made. $500 isn't enough to do a whole house but it's a good chuck! Plantation shutters are obviously in a different ball game though. My husband doesn't love them, so something like white wooden blinds might do too---but I want something gorgeous. Needless to say, even with an extra $500, I am not 100% sure.<br /> The top pic is the look I want and the 2nd pic is the look DH wants.
