My first was an emergency c-section, and I got to hold her as soon as my surgery was complete. My second was scheduled, and I got to do skin to skin and nurse almost immediately after she was born.

they brought charlie in right away after they stitched me up, but then they took him away for 3-4 hours after that!

I'm so sorry you went through that! With our twins, (36 week late-term preemies), I got to kiss them immediately and DH held them until we got to our room, which took about 45 minutes. I got to hold them pretty much immediately and try BF'ing. I honestly wanted a C-section and was a C-section baby myself, so I wasn't upset by not holding them...I feel like I was really prepared for it. I was happy watching DH hold them and honestly was uncomfortable enough from the surgery activities that I was distracted.

They put her on my chest for skin to skin while they stapled me up (sounds medieval!) and I kept her through that, and straight into the recovery room where the hospital rule is at least an hour with just you and baby. No family (except DH, of course), no nurses - just you and bebe.

They put her on my chest (wrapped up though) while they were stitching me up and the anesthesiologist helped me hold her because my arms were weak! (loved him). I held her as I was wheeled into recovery and as soon as I was in there the nurse helped me undress her and do skin to skin and try breastfeeding (about 45 min after they got her out probably)

Both times LO stayed in the room with me and I held them in my arms as we were wheeled from the OR to recovery and I nursed as soon as we got to recovery. I didn't do skin to skin per say but I could have if I had chosen to.

Yes I got to nurse and do skin to skin in recovery. I was sad that I didn't get him immediately like while still on the table though. It wasn't a planned c section so I didn't think to ask.

As soon as I got to recovery they brought baby and DH right over and I got to hold her. She had some heart rate issues during labor though and had to have a quick check at the NICU so I don't know if it would have been sooner otherwise.

I had to wait until I was in the recovery room: It was about an hour & I was unconscious for part of it but it felt like forever. DH was with her the whole time in the nursery but she was in her little bassinet mostly - I don't think he felt like he could hold her :( It still makes me really sad.

I touched him and kissed him right after he was born. He went to the nursery for a bath while I was being stitched up, then they brought him to me to do skin to skin and breastfeed about 30 minutes after he was born.

Had to wait bc I passed out during it due to hemorrhaging, so was more than 6-7 hours I had to wait to meet them. But I don't remember much before that anyways so it was probably for the best.

As soon as they weighed LO and checked him out, a nurse brought him over and put him right against my cheek, wrapped in a blanket.
Then, once they were able to lower the sterile field, they pulled off the blanket and put him face down on my chest until the surgery was over. At that point, the nurse took him back while we went back to the l & d/recovery room. As soon as we got there, they put him back on my chest and we started working on latching.

I had some issues after they pulled her our (my uterus would not clamp down and I was losing too much blood almost requiring a transfusion) but DH and LO were able to stay with me in the OR and once I was all stitched up we all went to the recovery room together and I was able to do skin-to-skin and nurse her for a long time. We were in recovery for a long time bc of my issues but LO stayed with me the entire time...DH left for a few minutes to tell family everything was ok but they let us stay together

Chloe was born, weighed and cleaned off and handed to my husband, who held her for the remainder of my surgery. When they were done, he was escorted to the PACU and I was handed the baby. I held her as they wheeled me into the PACU and she never left my side.

So maybe 5 minutes? 10? From the time she was born and before I was beside her. Maybe 20ish minutes from the time she was born until I was holding her.

I got to hold him almost immediately after he came out. I did have to ask/insist on it ahead of time though. Once I got too tired to hold him they took him to the nursery to clean him up and they finished up with me and brought me back to my room. A few minutes later DH and the baby showed up. I was scared to hold him because I was really shaky as an after effect of the surgery, but the nurse encouraged me to, saying it could help. And it did, within moments the shakiness went away :).

I was able to do skin to skin and nurse her with assistance while I was recovering. I needed the nurse to help because I was really out of it and definitely wouldn't have been able to hold her on my own. But I had an emergency section and my meds were definitely jacked up!

When did you get to hold lo for the first time? Did you get to do skin to skin and breastfeed while in recovery after the surgery was finished? Or did you have to wait until later? My c-section was different because lo was a preemie, but i had to wait 7 hours to hold him and it was pure torture. :( wondering if it is different for full term c-sections.
