With our twins, (36 week late-term preemies), I got to kiss them immediately and DH held them until we got to our room, which took about 45 minutes. I got to hold them pretty much immediately and try BF'ing. I honestly wanted a C-section and was a C-section baby myself, so I wasn't upset by not holding them...I feel like I was really prepared for it. (loved him). At that point, the nurse took him back while we went back to the l &amp; d/recovery room. When they were done, he was escorted to the PACU and I was handed the baby. I held her as they wheeled me into the PACU and she never left my side. </p> <p>So maybe 5 minutes? 10? From the time she was born and before I was beside her. I did have to ask/insist on it ahead of time though. Once I got too tired to hold him they took him to the nursery to clean him up and they finished up with me and brought me back to my room. A few minutes later DH and the baby showed up. I was scared to hold him because I was really shaky as an after effect of the surgery, but the nurse encouraged me to, saying it could help. Did you get to do skin to skin and breastfeed while in recovery after the surgery was finished? Or did you have to wait until later? My c-section was different because lo was a preemie, but i had to wait 7 hours to hold him and it was pure torture. :( wondering if it is different for full term c-sections. </p>
