Currently trying to make this decision myself. LO #1 was posterior with an asynclitic presentation (the side of the head) so even though I dilated fully after a looong labour and pushed for an hour, LO was stuck and I needed a CS.

I am flip flopping between the easy and predictable lead up to a RCS and the desire to have a VBAC because I was trying to go natural with my first. I had a really good recovery with my first but it's entirely possible that I won't have that experience again and I don't really want to be hindered physically for very long with a toddler at home.

To those who had a VBAC, did any of you tear really badly? How did that compare to healing from your incision? I worry that I would end up with a worse recovery than my CS if I happen to tear or need an extreme epi. Does anyone have lasting trauma/injury to the nether regions (like nerve pain, incontinence etc..?). Sorry if that's too personal, really trying to weigh my options!

I had an unplanned c section with my first and when I first became pregnant this time, I was dead set on a VBAC. Now, at 26 weeks, I'm just going to let what will be, be. I don't want to just schedule the RCS and I'd like to try for a VBAC, but if I have to have a c section for some reason, I think I will be able to handle it emotionally way better than last time because I've done it before. I'm trying not to plan it all out and I'm hoping that helps me stay relaxed about it all.

First was a planned c section due to breech and the second was an amazing VBAC experience. I didn't thibk I cared but in the end I am so glad I went for the vbac. The recovery was so much easier and I felt amazing right after birth. Please feel free to pm if you have any questions.

I had a repeat even if my OB was completely fine with a VBAC. Same situation as you with my first - breech! I was worried that having a VBAC would be like having a first baby and who knows if I'll end up having another section. Therefore, went with a repeat section. It also made it easier to plan for my parents' visit from half way around the world.

I labored for 18 hours and pushed for 4 before ending up with an emergency c-section with my first. I am currently 19 weeks pregnant with my second and we decided on a repeat c-section.

I've scheduled my RCS, I briefly discussed a VBAC with my doctor just to get all the facts, but knew I would rather have a RCS and my doc agreed. I was in labor, so unlike some, I have experienced pushing/labor/ect. I don't feel like I'm missing anything this time.

I wanted to do natural child birth as well. Well, over 100 hours later I had an emergency c-section. I was pissed at myself, my body and my experience for a long time. I got pregnant with my second, when my son was a year old. I was hoping my doctor would make the decision for me and say that I needed to have one. She was very supportive of a VBAC and said that I was the type of person that would probably waffle about it until the day the baby was born. I didn't want to do the labour again, but I was so against a c-section the first time, that I couldn't let myself choose to have one. She told me to book one anyway, and if I changed my mind, no problem, but at least I had a date. I booked for 39 weeks, 5 days. Went for the pre-op the week before and still hadn't made up my mind. Ended up she wanted to come a week early so I laboured for awhile and decided I didn't want to exhaust my body only to end up in a c-section again. By that time, it had become urgent again so I went for a c-section. Recovery was much easier the second time around. Maybe a little more tender the first cpl days but I was able to do a lot more than with the first. One thing my OB said that stuck with me is that people don't regret choosing a section, and people who have a successful vbac don't regret it, it's the people that choose to vbac and can't for whatever reason that are very disappointed. So that was in my head and helped me be ok with the second c-section. I would have been very upset if I tried for days on end again and wasn't successful. I am just blabbering on now...

I was set on a natural med-free childbirth with DD1 but after 16 hours labor and 3 hours pushing her posterior brow out head wouldn't budge!!! With DD2 I had told my OB I wanted a VBAC and they were on board as long as things progressed well. They we're hopeful since I was able to dully dilate and push with #1 and we just had to hope this one was better positioned. Luckily DD2 was perfectly positioned and I successfully had a VBAC! Recovery was better than with the c section and I got to go home much quicker.

@Seattlemom: @Mae: you know, having a toddler wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Maybe it's because I prepared for the absolute worst and it wasn't as bad as I expected, so I was pleasantly surprised at how smoothly everything went.

My kids are 35 months apart, though, so that could have played a huge role in it. The hardest part was not being able to carry Chloe, which is something I still did up until I was pregnant. She knew that once there wasn't a baby in my belly anymore mommy could carry her again, but had a hard time being patient while I healed. I started lifting her again when I was about 3-4 weeks PP without any problem.

Having my husband home was helpful & my mom and MIL helped out as much as they could too. I wish I would have had DH here another week. I had baby on a Tuesday so his work week off was wasted with me in the hospital. I would have preferred three full works of at home help.

My first was a c/s and last month I gave birth again but had a vbac. My biggest reason was that I hoped to get home to LO1 sooner and I also hoped for a better recovery. I had like 50/50 odds of a successful vbac according to my doctor. So, I scheduled a c/s for a few days before my due date because I knew LO2 would likely be a large baby like his brother. Then, I wanted to play things by ear. If I went into labor on my own and was progressing well I wanted to attempt the vbac, otherwise k would opt for a c/s still. I had a dr appointment and was 3.5cm dilated, so I knew that much when I started having contractions a few days later. I got to that hospital and was a 5 so I opted to continue on the vbac path and I'm glad I did because it was successful and I felt much better during recovery compared to my c/s. :)

@bunnylovesbear: wait, what? you just had your third baby 3 days ago? Congrats! Good luck for a speedy recovery.

@marionberry: yay twins! thats wonderful. I would prob pick a RCS for sure with twins on the way.

@Espion: I guess its kind of nice to know about your pelvis...I didn't even really go into labor with my first so I have no idea how things would go so of course I'm leaning toward the experience I do know.

@Danizaur: I feel the same way, like I might miss out on something. And I feel like some of my more earthy crunchy friends might judge if I didn't at least try for a VBAC!

@Mrs. Jump Rope: I'm glad both your sections went well for you! Mine was pretty painful and the consitpation suuucked, but other then that it went well. I do worry about having multiple c-sections since there is a chance we'll try for a third baby and then I'm sure my OB would want me to get a RCS.

@creativemomma15: there is a chance we'll have two more, so I do wonder if I should at least try for a VBAC next so I'm not doomed c-sections for every single child I have. Also I agree with you, @Mae & @Mamasigthat recovery is probably much harder when you have a toddler running around! And we don't currently live near family so we don't have much help.

If we have another, I would go the RCS route. Because of pregnant complications, I had an unplanned c-section, but I hadn't gone into labor. It was a really easy recovery, I just occasionally popped a Motrin and went on about my day. I think it'd be trickier with a toddler to care for, because of the lifting restrictions, but doable.

I had a c-section with my first after his heart rate was recovering and they tried to use the vacuum several times and it failed. With my second I went back and forth many times with what I wanted to do. I ended up having a successful vbac and everything worked out great. My doctor and hospital are very vbac friendly so that helped. It's a tough decision! Ultimately I decided I wanted to do a vbac because we may want to have more children and I know the risks can increase with each c-section. Plus I had a super fast labor of about 25 minutes after my water broke so my body made the decision for me.

I will attempt vbac if I have another. I had very little pain after my emergency c section but I had my incision open up one week pp which was terrifying and the restrictions (few stairs, no lifting, no driving) were too hard to stick with. I imagine they would be even harder if I had a toddler to care for too!

My first was due to failure to progress(stuck at barely 2cm after 10 hours of pitocin) and like @Espion: my pelvis doesn't seem to have been made to birth babies through it. I didn't even consider a VBAC a for the 2nd, especially since it was 15 months after the first.

I had a csection in 3/12 with my son because he was breech... I went into labor at 36 weeks and found out then he was breech and in 4 1/2 hours I was fully dilated and had to have an emergency csection. It was a good experience and I recovered very well but since we want more than 2 I was hoping for a vbac next. I had DD in 12/13 and had a successful vbac. My midwife & OB were very supportive since I actually labored with DS and showed that I could progress fully. I recovered well from my vbac too and preferred that recovery especially with having a toddler to take care of and not a lot of help during the days. The decision was harder than I thought just because of worries but I am so glad we had a vbac. It was a completely different experience.

I had a planned section with my first in 2011. She was breech. It was a wonderful birth experience and a great recovery.

I planned for a repeat with my second child. She's 5 weeks old. It was another fantastic experience with another amazing recovery.

This is 99% our last child, and if I wasn't so certain I would have considered a VBAC more. My OB doesn't want me to they for a VBAC with any future pregnancies.

I desperately wanted a natural birth, but I had a csection after stalling at 4cm after 14 hours of labor.

I'm in the same boat. I'm just thinking about scheduling a RCS for my next one even though I get those sad feelings sometimes that I missed out on the birthing experience. But my C went really great too and I had a good experience.

I know it's not exactly what you asked, but this kid is getting delivered alien-style just like the first. I had a super long induction with E, and my pelvis just isn't conducive to delivering the good old fashioned way. And even if I wanted to, they aren't very well set up for VBACs up here. (Which is a shame for the women who want them.)

My son was breech, leading to a scheduled c-section. Now that I'm pregnant again with twins I potentially have the option to birth vaginally but I'm pretty sure I'd rather an RCS. Maybe if it were a singleton pregnancy I'd attempt it but with two I consider it risky. VBACs are very popular at my hospital but I know not all hospitals even allow them.

I just had my third csection. My first was due to my daughter being breech, like you. It was just a positive experience that I chose to have a RCS with my son in 2012. Then when we got pregnant a third time, my doctor recommended another RCS for the third birth. All were positive experiences...although I do feel like this last one has had the most difficult recovery. Not sure if I'm only feeling that way bc I'm experiencing it now (10/8) so it's fresh in my mind...

Not pregnant with #2 yet but wondering about this. With DS (16 mo) I reeeally wanted a natural delivery. Sadly he was stubbornly breech. Still, I really wanted to go into early labor before the c-section so my OB let me schedule the cesarean at 41 weeks. Well, my water broke at 38 weeks and in I went for the surgery. It all went very smoothly, especially since I wasn't in pain/labor for hours before the c-section.

Now thinking ahead about my next delivery I'm surprising myself by thinking that I'd want to just schedule a c-section. It seems weird since I was dead set on having a natural birth the first time.

Anyone else feel this way? If your first delivery was a c-section, what did you do for your second?
