We took the bottom part out at 11 pounds but still have the headrest in at 7 months (16lbs). I hadn't really thought about taking it out!

Ah I love when I get on HB to ask a question and its already here! I just moved the straps up to the highest point today and wasn't sure if I should be taking out the headrest too but I went ahead and did it. DS is 4.5 months and 19lbs so I think it's ok!

Not to thread jack, but does anyone else find it difficult to get their LOs legs under the straps? I feel like we have to really bend and turn them and I'm afraid I'm going to hurt him.. It seems like a really tight fit when getting them in.

I removed the actual infant insert around 2 months. I just hadn't been too sure about the head rest insert...but I think I will take it out tonight! He's a little guy, 8 months about about 16 pounds.

Yikes....sounds like I should have taken out the headrest already? LO is 5 months and we took out the bottom at 2 months but headrest is still there.

We removed the infant padding once she was over 11 Pounds (which the instructions say to do for safety reasons!). We removed the headrest padding when she was about 3 months old. At that point she had great head control and showed signs of wanting to be able to move her head more and look around. The headrest needs to be strapped in so according to the directions once the shoulder straps are in the highest spot the headrest needs to be removed.

I think you mean the extra cushioning insert? In that case, we took it out early on too, like at 2-3 months. LO stayed in the keyfit until 10.5 months when we got a convertible seat due to her loooong legs.

I removed the headrest and the bottom insert by 2 months. He had good head control and hated being confined, so taking those out helped improve his attitude a little bit.

Did you ever remove the headrest that came with it? DS is 8 months and about 16 pounds. I don't want to switch him out of the carrier yet, but he throws a FIT when I put him in his carseat. I have the straps threaded up as high as they will go, but I am not sure if I remove the headrest if that will help or not.
