When my grandmother passed away and we were stuck, friends of ours took our dog for a few days. We had them over for dinner the next month then a few months later we took their dog for a couple nights. We don't give each other anything, it's just part of what we would do for each other.</p> <p>I guess if it's out of their way gas could make sense and then just making dinner or something or treating when you're out if you want to. I think he and his girlfriend paid for a dinner out, though (it's hard to remember!) I didn't really expect anything and I probably would have declined if he offered.
