I had an epi with DS but did feel a high/emotional surge right after the birth. With DD, I only labored 45min, so no time for an epi, and I felt 100% normal right after the birth (no highs or lows). I just remember the stitches hurting...don't recall feeling high at all, mostly just shock that a little person really did just come out of me. I was high on life. Best moment of my life, eternally happy. Drugs or no drugs have nothing to do with it. At least for me, I felt wonderful the moment she came and before that (when I got my epi!). Before the epi... no. I felt horrible. After she came I didn't feel the pitocin shot or third stage or even notice anything but her. I walked out after and felt great. I think mostly from the feeling that all the pain was gone finally and that I had accomplished what I set out to do. What's weird is that thinking back on it now, after time has passed, I don't think so fondly of it. I'm dreading thinking about having to go through all that again. I think it overwhelmed the high. I have seen women get the high though, lots of them. It totally exists. Do you think that this sensation is muted/not as prevalent when there are meds involved?
