I had gone off birth control because we were long distance and only saw each other for 3-4 days every few months..... And then we got too drunk on 4th of July and I ended up knocked up. Whoops.

I am pregnant with LO #2 (waiting I hear back from the dr about how far along I am!) It took us over two years and fertility treatments to get pregnant with DS. We were not trying at all- we wanted to wait ill DS was 2 before we even talked about it. My cycles were wacky since DS was born so apparently I wasn't doing very well with tracking. We also only had sex 3 times in the last 2 months so apparently one of those times was prefect for making a baby!! We are atill in shock- but excited!!

I hadnt had a period in over a year and was told that I would be unable to conceive without intervention.
I had acupuncture for pain and I think it stimulated ovulation.

I often say my second was a "surprise" but we were being pretty lax in truth because we knew we wanted a second at some point. We were basically doing P and P and I was avoiding days when I thought I would be ovulating. I think this is often what happens with #2.

My friend has a 7 mo old and is pregnant with her second. She wasn't ovulating and was on Clomid to get pregnant with her first. She really didn't think she would get pregnant without some intervention for her second. They didn't use protection just one time and now she's 8 wks along.

I went back on the pill at 6 weeks pp but it gave me migraines. So since I was still breastfeeding and amenorrheic, we just relied on pull n pray until we figured out another solution. Never did figure one out and I got pregnant 9 mo pp. Never had a period! And while we did intentionally fail at PNP sometimes, we didn't within the window I would've gotten pregnant in.

Oh and my sister and I are only a year and a month apart because my mother thought having no period and nursing me was enough for birth control. Nope! Wish I was as lucky. Still hoping to get pregnant without fully weaning but we are down to 1 feed a night and still no baby. It's a craps shoot!

My case is a bit different but ill chime in. We were planning to start trying in January of 2012 just after our honeymoon which was in December. I was using a barrier method birth control and charting my cycles for about 6 months at that point. I had really good fertile CM about two days before THE NIGHT and on that fateful night my husband told me not to worry about birth control even though he knew we were in my window. To be honest neither of us thought it would lead to anything. I'd just had a bunch of fertility testing done and had a low AMH result which can indicate DOR. I was completely shocked when I got a positive test at 15DPO. Oh and I was temping and the whole 9 yards even on vacation because I was so nervous/excited to start trying. So not really planned but also not an oops.

NTNP for us. It took 5 months to get pregnant with our son, so once I was done nursing, I went back on the pill. However, I strongly felt it took so long to get pregnant bc my body was adjusting to getting off the pill, so I decided to stop taking the pill after a week or two. (We eventually wanted 1 more). For then next year or so, we were very successfully NTNP. Then in January, it just happened...must've been timed perfectly bc we only had sex once that month!!

After my first was born, I went on BC. I was starting to get really bad headaches, and the only time I didn't really get one was when I was in the 'sugar pill' week of BC. I decided that I was going to not use the pill for a month to see how my headaches were. A week or so after I stopped taking the BC I had what I thought was AF, so I thought we were all good.Turns out it was breakthrough bleeding from going off the pill.(I sometimes missed periods on this pill, and had the month before I went off it, so I thought I ovulated funky. Also, I stopped the BC at a funky time...I think I had a week or so left) My headaches went away...but surprise! I was pregnant.(this also all happened at 6 months pp...we were definitely not trying!)

My story is kinda silly, but this pregnancy was certainly a surprise.

I was still nursing J2 and hadn't gotten my period back yet. He was 16 months old at the time. We had decided we weren't going to have anymore children. Although we were being super careful, and it sounds childish, he was pulling out. DH scheduled a vasectomy for himself, then friends of ours offered up a week at their beach house for my birthday. It happened to fall in the same week as the scheduled vasectomy. On the date that it was scheduled for, DH and I had sex, and he decided "since we were on vacation" he wasn't going to pull out. I really didn't think much about it after the fact (slightly stunned at that time). 8 weeks later J1 & J2 got a stomach bug. I also started to get very sick. However, they got better and I never did. I went to the doctor with severe dehydration and whamo found out I was pregnant. Whoopsie!

We had been using fertility awareness for nearly 4 years before our surprise :) Really, the closer we got to when we planned on trying, he more complacent we both got with our chosen method. It has worked for so long! I know when I ovulate! We've had unprotected sex this close to ovulation before and it was fine! Ha! But I am so, so thankful we got lazy because we were ready and she is just the best.
This time around though, IUD. No surprises here!

I thought because I didn't have a period (pretty sure it was due to stress/low body weight), I couldn't get preggo. So when I forgot a few pills, I was like "hell I haven't had a period in over a year so there's no way I'll get preggo". I was wrong! :silly:

I did and am pregnant with my first.

Miscommunication lol. I was using a fertility monitor (lady comp) that you take your temp every morning then it gives you a green light (not fertile) or red light (fertile). On red light days we did pull n pray. We'd been using it a year without mishap until one day when we had a miscommunication about what color day it was (he asked a question I misheard and answered incorrectly) and after I was like... wtf? and we realized what we'd done. Afterwards we joked that we needed to install big blinking lights on our bedroom wall that I could flip on so that there could be no confusing what day it was, but we didn't really think it was likely we'd get pregnant from one mishap. And yet....! lol Best miscommunication ever. We feel incredibly lucky that everything worked out like it did.

Also, I just heard from a friend she got surprise pregnant with her second. They had had a lot of fertility trouble with their first. Took 2.5 years and multiple IUIs to conceive. Nevertheless they were preventing by tracking her fertility (manually) and using condoms on fertile days. Except she missed her period and is currently 5.5 weeks pregnant so obviously they calculated wrong. lol

Most people I know who had that happen with their second were being pretty lax with birth control and thought they'd be fine since they were still breastfeeding. My brother who is a year and a week younger than me is an excellent example of this! And it took my mom a year to get pregnant with me, so she really wasn't expecting it so soon!

If you had a "surprise" pregnancy...would you mind sharing what happened? I don't mean if you were NTNP, but rather you REALLY weren't trying. Did a birth control fail? Someone forget to use it? Have a P and P mishap? Ovulate unexpectedly early or late? Or something else I am not thinking of. I was thinking about this today because several people have told me lately that they got pregnant with the second before they were planning to. So I was just wondering what the majority of happy "oop"s were the result of. I didn't want to pry, obviously with the people that I knew but I figured on here, people can share if they want to... or not!
