With my daughter I labored and progressed from 4cm to 10cm in 6 hours (midwife broke my water at 8cm since it was bulging) and pushed for 3 hours, but she was posterior and forehead out so she literally was stuck. They had the OB on-call see if vacuum was an option but he said she was just too stuck so we went for an c-section. I am shooting for a VBAC this time around (due 6/29) and am with an OB practice that favors VBAC's. Since I progressed naturally and was able to push last time, OB is fairly confident this will work but she is also very pushy about my weight. I gained 38lb with DD and she was born 8lb 2oz. My weight gain this time around is falling in the same pattern but I'm not happy she keeps balking at this - I wish I can kindly explain that when I grow babies, my a$$, thighs and arms also grow so it's not exactly indicative of baby size!!! [sorry for the vent at the end... ]

I had an "emergency" csection with my first due to pre-eclampsia/HELLP. There was no time to wait for me to labor and I was only 33w6d. I hope to have a vbac in about 7 weeks for my second. My doc says a VBAC is the safest option for us and she is really optimistic about my chances since the first was didn't have anything to do with failure to progress on my part.

@rrachael: I delivered my son on 4/18. I had a successful vbac! It was a super fast delivery. That day I went to work but was just feeling different. I was having lots of pressure and then had a little bleeding so I went home around 1:30. When I got home I had a few random contractions. Went to pick up my son and during the car ride I was having regular 4 minute apart contractions, came back home and laid down to see if they would stop, which they didn't. We got to the hospital and I was 4 cm. They decided to keep me because they didn't like how his heart rate wasn't recovering after contractions. I felt like it was happening all over again and I felt like I was going to end up with a section again. I saw my doctor and he said that everything looked fine (his heart rate did better when I laid on my side) and no reason not to try vaginal delivery. 5 minutes after he left my water broke and I had an incredible urge to push but they wanted me to hold off and I didn't think I could. They checked me again and I was 10 cm. so I pushed for about 20 minutes and he was born. I had no time for an epidural which I actually think helped me to deliver him quickly. So thankfully this baby was really determined to come out and made the decision for me.

My csection was because DS was breech. When discussing my vbac with my OB he said that he has seen women in your situation try for a vbac and most end in a csection again. He was very pro vbac in the right situation though. Good luck deciding!

I had a c section with my 1st because of his size - I didn't even try a vaginal birth. He was 10 1/2 pounds. With this pregnancy, I'm just scheduling a repeat c section because I'm assuming DS2 will also be large. If for some reason I go into labor early and the doc thinks he's smaller, I'll reassess. But she said the likelihood is he will also be large if I go for 39 weeks again.

@aimed: I'm in a very similar position as you. I was 9 days overdue and induced, but never dialated or progressed at all, Had a c-section and found out I am narrow. LO #1 was 8lb 9oz. My OB is giving me the option for a vbac which will likely only work if LO #2 is smaller. I'm really torn. My c recovery wasn't too bad either. I think I'm leaning towards another c.

I had a c section with my first because his heart rate didn't recover after contractions and then he got stuck, they tried to use the vacuum three times but failed. Still undecided about what to do with my next delivery in about 6 weeks.

@MarieJ: my ob is really supportive of vbac in general so I think that it is just in my case she thinks that it might not work although she said I could definitely try for it.
To be honest, I'm not desperate for a vbac if/when the time comes as my c section experience was fine but I guess I'd like to see what my options are!

I haven't had a VBAC, but I'm newly pregnant with #2 and I have high hopes that I can have one. My first csection was due to my water breaking at 34w3d and my body not progressing like it should because it wasn't ready for labor. I never dilated past a 2 :(

I hope you can have a successful VBAC. I wonder if your doctor is saying that your chances of having one are unlikely due to the fact that he/she might not fully support it?

Bumping in hopes that you get some responses! I posted like the exact same question a few days ago, haha, but didn't really hear back. My first c-section was because my son's heart rate was dropping, and my midwife is optimistic I'll be able to have a vbac since it had more to do with him than my body, but we'll see!

If you had a vbac, what was the reason for your earlier c section? My body never dilated enough and my pelvis shape is apparently an issue so I had an unexpected c section with LO. My ob feels that I could try for a vbac if we have another but the chances of it working aren't great. So just wondering what the reasons for c sections were if you had a vbac.
