DS was the same way, great nighttime sleeper, but fed every 1.5 hours-2 hours through 8/9 weeks! It ended up stretching out to 3-4 after that...good luck!! I promise, it doesen't feel like it, but these days will fly by and soon be over!

@Pirouette: haha, my family was the same way- drove me nuts! i even did a weighed feed to see if it was indeed my supply, and she got over 4 ounces in less than 10 mins! these 2 articles helped me a lot during this time:

@Pirouette: I don't remember when either, but it soon started to space out to every 3hrs. Infact she never seemed to demand to be fed after the first couple of months, so I ended up just feeding every 3-4hrs during the day anyway.

@Modern Daisy: I can't imagine making her wait every 2 hours! You would probably hear her scream from wherever in the city you are haha!

@NovBaby1112: oh my god thank you so much! This makes me feel so much better! I am so sick of hearing from family how I'm spoiling her by feeding her on demand and how she can't possibly be this hungry or my production must be really low...um I pumped 7oz in 10 min this am and she poops all day long - she just eats a lot!

@mrs. tictactoe: we were just saying last night how lucky we are that she only gets fussy when she's hungry, so there's no guesswork... The boob really makes her so happy! And I'm also so lucky she latches well or this would be brutal!

@Foodnerd81: the night cluster feeding doesn't really bother me, and I think I'll really appreciate it when I go back to work! But I long for when it's actually just clustered at night! (Love parenthood!!)

@Pirouette: just wanted to also add that my LO became much faster at eating around 12 weeks or so. This also helped me not feel like she's constantly eating!

C was like that for the first several weeks (minus the STTN :( ). I'm sorry I can't remember when it spaced out, but it did gradually, on her own. We still sort of cluster feed at night to tank her up for her first stretch of sleep, at 6 months, but I actually do it intentionally (like she eats at 5/5:30 and again at 7). Otherwise it's about every 3 hours now, but she can go longer if she's napping or distracted.

In those early, nonstop nursing days, I just kept repeating to myself "This is establishing your supply. It's short term difficulty for long term breastfeeding." I don't even know if that's totally true but it helped me deal with it. That, and Netflix streaming and On Demand. I watched the entire series of Parenthood while nursing.

I think Liam did that until at least three months old. He ate constantly during the day. At first it was so hard on me because BFing was so painful and I wasn't expecting him to just want to nurse nonstop, but eventually I got used to it and didn't mind so much because it was like the magic tool to calm him and keep him happy. He'd never ever deny the boob!

I could have written this in my LO's early newborn stage. I swear she nursed every 45 minutes all day long for a good 3 months. I was constantly questioning myself and wondering if I was doing something wrong or if something was wrong with her- maybe supply issues, maybe reflux, etc. to make matters worse, all our family and friends had never even heard of cluster feeding and were in shock that she was always constantly nursing. i called tons of LC's and went to breastfeeding support groups and they always reassured me that it was totally normal and some babies just like to cluster feed! i remember not even being able to leave the house or couch some days because it seemed like we were always in a never ending growth spurt. around 3 months her feedings started to space out a bit more, maybe even earlier than 3 months. then we got into more of a routine and "schedule" which was so much better. so hang in there mama! i know how hard it is, but it is all totally normal!!!

My LO was the hungriest hippo early on, he insisted on eating every 1-2 hours even though he was on formula. And his longest sleep stretches were during the day instead of at night. During the day for a while we tried making him wait a full 2-3 hours before eating again, but it was totally exhausting and never caught on. What helped more was limiting his daytime sleeping, breaking up naps that were more than an hour and feeding him - eventually that lead to him eating less at night and sleeping longer.

@jetsa: that's a relief! I am worried I'd be a leaky mess at work and in pain!

@scg00387: I know, it's nuts, right? Thank god she doesn't have her days and nights messed up or I'd really be a mess, haha!

@sarac: I hear ya...I don't want to put her on a schedule or anything...I love being able to meet her needs! But when I can't even get a 20 min break all day, I mean, I'm not the most patient person and let's just say I feel sorry for dh having to put up with me haha!

@lamariniere: but only the first 3 months, right?! :)

Jack eats every 2-3 hours now but it took a long time to get here over 3 months. Good news is I went back to work at 6 weeks and could pump plenty pumping every 2-3 hours even though he was nursing every hour at home.

Yeah. I mean, my 28 month old just stopped nursing.

Kidding. Kind of.

My baby nursed for 6+ hours a day until at least 6 months. Then it was 5 hours, then four. She was always a slow and long duration nurser. I could have cut the time down earlier than I did, but when she was young and still only nursing, it was just a matter of going with the flow.

Yes! It sounds totally normal, and a routine will slowly start to develop. That is amazing sleep for such a little one, she has to tank up! Just keep nursing whenever she wants, at this age she is still trying to establish your supply.
Kellymom.com has a lot of resources that were very comforting when my daughter was that little.

Did your LO eventually start to have more of a routine/space out feedings more? If so, when? My LO is 6 weeks and she eats constantly during the day - I mean literally clusterfeeds all day and I'm hoping once she's past the 6 week growth spurt she'll settle down a little and get more of a routine? Or at least a little longer stretches between feeds? Just wondering if that is wishful thinking ;)

I shouldn't complain because she sleeps 7-8 hour stretches at night, but the all day feeding would be impossible once I go back to work!

I'm just wondering if this might happen naturally, as I'm not really wanting to do baby wise or anything like that, especially with such a small baby.
