Your length of pain doesn't sound typical. I would definitely have things checked out!

That doesn't sound good and I wonder if it is scar tissue build up?

I had an episiotomy/3rd degree tearing. Even though I felt fine after 1 month, DTD was painful and I went to physio. If you have the coverage, I would look into one that specializes in post partum care. I did laser therapy and other exercises which helped tremendously.

:( that doesn't sound fun! Mine wasn't noticeable after about 3 weeks. I'm almost 6 weeks now and having zero discomfort, I don't even know how big the cut was, I was too scared to ever check it out lol.

random thought - I didn't have an episiotomy but apparently the trauma from the birth caused a vaginal polyp (harmless). it caused pain and light bleeding until I had it removed. they couldn't see it at the 6w PP checkup and I waited forever to get it checked which was really stupid, because once removed it healed quickly and we could DTD without pain.

all to say, I vote to have it checked out! maybe there is something they can do, or maybe it's not what you think.

@LovelyPlum: like @Boheme I still had occasional pain over a year PP. I went to my OB who suggested physical therapy but I couldn't bring myself to go. I know I should have.
DS is 2.5 and though I'm no longer sore, I'm very aware of my (internal) scar, as in I can feel it and at times it makes things uncomfortable.
(I had a mediolateral episiotomy, over 100 stitches)

Thanks, all. I don't know what degree tearing I had, but I had a bunch of stitches. I have an appointment with a new doctor on Monday. I am a little nervous about asking, but I am honestly not sure that this is normal.

It still hurts on occasion at 15 months PP, but it was 4th degree. You might talk to your OB/midwife. I hesitated to ask my new midwife about it, and when I finally did she saw that I needed a bit of revision. I wish I'd asked sooner!

19 weeks of discomfort?! Ouch!
After a few weeks I couldn't feel anything uncomfortable down there and we DTD without pain.

I don't think it was still sore at that point. I will say that I'm 12 months PP and still have some discomfort while DTD. I'm not sure if that's the norm, though. I also haven't had a period PP yet, but I'm anxious about using tampons as well. I'm sorry, it's no fun :( Maybe make an appointment with your doctor/midwife to get it checked out just in case?

I honestly think mine was healed and no longer bothering me by 6 weeks pp. I think maybe you should talk to your doctor and make sure it's healing properly.

I was still sore until about 8 months pp. It made DTD really uncomfortable and I still get anxious now to be honest.

Hmm, I had an episiotomy plus tearing. I remember being very sore for the first couple weeks, and then not noticing it as much after. At my 6 week pp checkup, they told me I was fully healed, so Hubs and I DTD. We used lots of lube, but it was definitely sore and painful! I only really remember it feeling sore when we were DTD and I didn't notice it at other times. I think all the soreness was gone by 6-7 months pp.

I think if you still feel sore in general, you might want to speak to your doctor about it. I don't remember feeling sore after 6 weeks except when we were actually DTD.

We DTD at around 6 weeks pp. It hurt the first time, but it got progressively better.

The soreness would come and go. For the most part it was fine and healed correctly, but I'd have random shooting pains occasionally. It all faded by four months pp.

...how long was it sore?

I'm 19 weeks PP, and I'm still feeling it every day. Does this sound normal? Not going to lie, it makes me very anxious to DTD and use tampons again. :bummed:
