The IUI itself honestly wasn't painful at all, no different than someone digging around up there for a pap smear, etc. . It was cramping afterwards that made it a wee bit uncomfortable, but honestly not bad. You'll do great! Good luck! The thing I wasn't prepared for was the part where they asked me my name, what procedure I was there for, my husbands name and DOB - so they don't put the wrong sample in you! With my first one, the Dr performing it (wasn't my regular RE, she wasn't on that day) had me come in with a full bladder. Once she got the speculum in and the nurse pressed on my stomach with the ultrasound wand, I thought my bladder was going to burst! The second IUI I didn't have to have a full bladder and that was easy peasy. The first one was a little uncomfortable, but no big deal. The second was extremely painful. I think the nurse positioned the speculum incorrectly. I was in tears and it took a lot for me not to squirm away from her. I had a good deal of spotting afterwards. My husband told me I should have spoken up, and he is right. I was scared of her repositioning it and making it worse though. I just wanted to get it over with. I don't think it is supposed to be painful, especially because my first one wasn't. I felt a little pressure but it was actually less painful than my annual pap smear. The thing I hated was the speculum - they always hurt me since I'm very tiny and they are kind of one size fits all. I have had an HSG and that was pretty painful as far as the pinching and things go but I'm hoping that an IUI is easier than that! Anyone care to share?
