I was barely effaced and not dilated at my 39 wk appointment. My water broke at 39+5, and I was dilated at all until several hours later. I went from 3 to 10 in about 4 hours. LO was born 15 hours after my water broke.

Started around 36/37 weeks, by 38 weeks I was almost completely effaced and starting to dilate. Nothing progressed past that and I had a c-section at 40+2. OB, nurses, *everyone* kept saying she would be an early baby due to progress.....nope!!

I barely showed any progress, ever. So I was induced!

I was 1 cm at 36 weeks, 1.5-2 cm at 38 weeks and my cervix kept getting softer. at 40 weeks, i was still the same 1.5-2cm, but she said I was favorable for a membrane sweep and eventually an induction, so i was scheduled for one a week later.

Mine was 33 weeks for pre term labor fears because of contractions during my NST's .
I started to dilate at 33 weeks as well and was at 2cm and put on bed rest for that and high BP.
When I went in at 37weeks for induction I was 3cm and 80% effaced prior to any pitocin or my water being broken.

@GreenThumb: That's how I felt, too! I'm too curious of a person to skip them, even if they end up disappointing me. Hope your appointment goes well!

@Pepper: Great question! I'm at 37w2d today and have an appt this afternoon (this would be my first cervical check). I'm trying to decide whether I want one or not. I don't want to be disappointed if nothing is happening, but I want to know if something is happening!!

I think I was 1.5 cm dilated either at the 37 or 38 week checkup. But I also didn't give birth until 3 days past my due date. At the appt. 2 days after my due date, I was about a 2 or so.

I started effacing at around 36 weeks or so. However, I was still at 0cm dilated at 39 weeks, 5 days but was almost totally effaced. I ended up having her at 40 weeks, 4 days.

I voted 38 weeks but I should have checked 39 weeks. I had a check at 36, barely 1cm, and then didn't have another till 39 weeks, when I was almost 3. I was a couple days before 39 weeks, and then my water broke the night of 39 weeks, and I was a little over 3cm when I got to the hospital.

When did you start to show signs of progress?

My OB office starts them at 36 weeks, so I just had one today. (I've had them in the past due to all the BH contractions and spotting I've had throughout this pregnancy, so I'm not opposed to having them now). Anyway, OB said I was closed, long and thick. Baby is head down but not engaged. Curious when everyone started to see progress, or if nothing happened until you went into labor!
