One OB did a very painful cervical check and the one yesterday was super gentle and did a membrane sweep during the check. First was at 39 weeks, second was at 40 weeks. Was only 1cm dilated at the check-up and when I checked in to the hospital, but progressed to 8cm very, very quickly. Cramping, light spotting, no labor.<br /> At 39 weeks I was 5 cm dilated and had another sweep. Lots of cramping, no labor.</p> <p>I ended up being induced a week later. But I know sweeps do work for a lot of people, only if your body is truly ready for labor. Even though I was dilated, mine just wasnt. It fizzled out over night. 1 am on 38+1 my water broke and baby was born that afternoon. A couple of hours ago, my doctor did a membrane sweep and now I am having some tightening/cramping and back pain that comes and goes. Some of it I have had to breathe through.<br /> Is this just a normal response to a membrane sweep (not necessarily leading to labor?) If you had cramping/back pain after a sweep, did it just go away? </p>
