I had a friend who tried for a VBAC and they let her go to 41.5 weeks. She didn't end up progressing at all from the induction though.

@mrs. bird: Wow...I might need more than 10 minutes to be mentally prepared!
@Grace: Thanks! We're moving in a few months, so I have no idea who my OB will be for my next pregnancy. My current one is super pro-VBAC, so I feel like he would give me a little more time as long as there were no other issues. I guess they can't force you to have a c-section but would just strongly recommend after 40 weeks?

My doctor told me that they would suggest a repeat c-section if I went over 40 weeks because they wouldn't expect me to go onto labour on my own anyways. But it was just a recommendation - she wouldn't insist on a c-section.

i have nothing of my own to add to this, but my mom had to be induced 3 times with my brother, first two failed, third took, she had a very long (pain med free) labor with him (he was sunny side up). for her second, she didn't even realize she was in labor with me since she didn't go on her own the first time (she worked in maternity, you'd think she'd know :D ), she thought i was just mexican food bothering her belly, nope! almost didn't make it to the hospital & it was <10mins between parking and her holding me. she still calls me lightning :)

i'm sure there are different rules if you've had a c-section before, but just wanted to give you a story of how very different labors can be for the same person!

I was induced at 36 weeks, but I never dilated at all even on Pitocin and ended up with a c-section. I'm hoping when we have another baby that I will be able to try for a vbac, but I've heard they won't induce and won't let you go past 40 weeks. I know that second babies sometimes come more quickly, but I assume that's more applicable when your body has already done the whole thing before.

I'm curious if you had a failed induction or failure to progress, if your next pregnancy was similar or did you go into labor on your own?
