@littlejoy: I was worried about the same thing. Sooooo thirsty. I am high risk because my dad and brother have type 1 diabetes. Because my dad has T1D he was able to check my sugar for me. He just switched a new needle into his finger poker thing. Know anyone that could do that for you? Everything was fine but I was so thirsty... stilll am and the babe is 10 months old. I drink a lot of water too.

@avivoca: I was only six weeks into my third pregnancy when my blood sugar went haywire, I tested two hours after eating some sandwiches made with white bread and my number was sky high, no wonder I felt awful after eating them!

OP - my only symptom with my second pregnancy was a spike in weight gain at 27ish weeks but I wasn't surprised about the diagnosis because I'd had a borderline test during my first pregnancy and I'm pretty sure I had developed undiagnosed GD by the time I delivered (it also runs on the maternal side of my family).

@littlejoy: I'm surprised your midwife said that to you! My midwives never even weigh me! No help on the gestational diabetes front, but I have been much thirstier this pregnancy (with darker urine too) and I usually drink a ton of water.

@littlejoy: my understanding is diet can't prevent GD but if you do have it it can keep you from having to take meds.

I'd push for an early test.

If you do have it I can help you figure out testing and everything.

And you are not overweight you are perfect and gorgeous.

@2PeasinaPod: The movement after eating is my goal right now. I had a rough first 20 weeks and did nothing. Now that it's nicer out, my goal is to walk at least once a day. Thanks for the reminder!

I had it with my first son, but not with my second. I think I passed the 3-hour test by the skin of my teeth with my second, so I kept watching what I was eating anyway. I think that if you're concerned, cut down on your sugar/carb intake for now and be sure to walk after every meal. You have another 2 weeks until your test, so I wouldn't push for it any earlier, especially if you didn't have it with your first.

I also didn't have any warning signs except that my mom has Type 2 Diabetes. I'm a relatively small, and active person, so I was pretty shocked when I was diagnosed with my first.

@littlejoy: Honestly the two weeks aren't really going to hurt either way, so I would wait for the testing. You can buy test strips and meters from the pharmacy (I suggest the store brand, much cheaper than OneTouch) if you'd like to get a sense of how you are doing, but ask your midwife.

@avivoca: @tinyperson: My first thought too, but I am diligent about my water. I drink at least 100 oz a day (always have) ... wondering if my pre-pregnancy 100 ounces should be closer to 120 now??

I will really focus on how I feel after eating this weekend. Wonder if I should press for testing earlier?

@littlejoy: I had GD both times. The first time, I had no warning signs. The second, I felt so bad after eating pancakes at 11 weeks that I tested my blood sugar and it was 150 two hours after I ate (they like it to be 120 or below). I opted to take the test early at 20 weeks and I did have GD again.

It's likely that you are dehydrated. I had to drink 80-100 oz. of water while I was pregnant or I would get insanely thirsty.

Did you have any warning signs? I'm so thirsty (25 weeks) ... like, SO THIRSTY all of the time. All of my urine tests have been normal, and my GD test isn't for 2 more weeks. Not sure why I'm fixated on this right now (I am slightly overweight, but didn't have GD last pregnancy). Just curious if anyone had a feeling they would be diagnosed.

*edited: I drink at least 80-100 oz of water a day.
