I had high BP with my first never pre-e. I'm 24 weeks with number 2 and we just ran pre-e tests to have a baseline for protein. The midwife told me that having chronic high blood pressure or pih in a previous pregnancy raises your chances of having pre-e in subsequent pregnancies so the opposite of @sungirl lol.

I'm bumping this again. I was just going to draft a post asking essentially the same question but came across this one first. I was induced at 37 weeks with my first pregnancy due to high bp (never became preeclamptic). I'm 13 weeks pregnant with my second and wondering how likely it is for me to have the same issue this time around. I'm already stressing about it, which obviously doesn't help anything!

With my first, I went on BP meds and bed rest at 22 weeks. I had a bad episode at work and was actually rushed to the ER. I was at a job where I was walking all day. So I quit work and had to be on modified bed rest as well as meds in order to manage my very high blood pressure. I was induced on my due date when my BP spiked to 160/100.

With my second, I went on BP meds at 12 weeks. Since I started managing it earlier, I didn't have to go on bed rest, but my doctor did have to up my medication a couple times as the pregnancy progressed. My BP never spiked and I never had proteins in my urine and ended up delivering naturally 8 days before my due date.

With my first I had high BP with bed rest at 35 weeks with induction for pre-e at 36 weeks.

With #2 I had high BP at 35 weeks. Stopped working and was monitored closely but did not develop pre-e. Was induced at 39w for the BP.

I had high bp at the end of my first pregnancy and was induced the day after my due date because of it but my bp was completely normal during my second. Good luck!

ETA - my dr said that it sometimes happens more in first pregnancies.

I have no idea which category would be best for this, but I guess "High Risk" works.

Towards the end of my pregnancy I had high blood pressure. They thought I might be developing pre-e, but I was put on bedrest for a few days at 37 weeks, which normalized my BP. I went into labor a week later and my bp measured high again, so I had to be monitored to make sure I didn't develop pre-e after birth. Thankfully my BP went back down pretty quickly.

Now I am wondering whether I am likely to experience the same thing if I get pregnant again. If you had high BP in your first pregnancy, did you have it again in subsequent pregnancies? Does anyone know if the likelihood of developing high bp in subsequent pregnancies is higher if you had it in the first?
