It was heartbreaking. Also the four or five Clomid + IUI's before that were negative. We had no real diagnosis other than we weren't getting pregnant. The first IVF-ICSI I only got three eggs, one good embryo, one fair embryo. We put both in. I took a pregnancy test the night before because the nurse would call me at work and I didn't want to have a breakdown at work. We had no embryos left so our only choice was another IVF. We also had to pay for everything ourselves since insurance didn't cover it.</p> <p>The second IVF-ICSI I was put on much higher doses of meds and I only got seven eggs and ended up with five embryos. If it hadn't worked I would have taken a month or two off. We put two in and one took. Now we have a beautiful five and a half month old son, and honestly sometimes I look at him and get tears of gratitude thinking about how much we did to get him. </p> <p>It is a very hard and heartbreaking process. I was able to talk to my sister, the only person who could really listen and not offer platitudes. Even though the RE process can have a very exacting schedule, we also tried to not let it disrupt our lives and still planned trips and fun things as much as possible. I had myself convinced that it would work because I had two very high quality embryos to transfer on day 5. I got my period before my beta, even with progesterone. I took a month off, and then did a FET last March, and now I am currently sitting on the couch with my 4 and a half month old son while my daughter is napping in the other room. It was a hell of an experience, but it ended up working for us. a girlfriend of mine did not have success until her fourth try, and she has a beautiful three month old right now.
