My water broke 10 days early and when I got to the hospital the nurse and doctor told me there was meconium and that there would be a neonatologist present at the birth to assess DS. Turns out he was breech and did not have any in his system as it all directly exited when my water broke! Lol. The nurse said when she saw the clumps of meconium and saw that it had not mixed in with my water she knew then that DS was breech! He was quickly checked after the section but was good to go!

DD was a booked c-section at 38 weeks. There was "old" mec present and she did not cry at delivery so was inubated to suction below the cords. She had respiratory distress and low sats so she was admitted to NICU. She was on O2 for several hours then was it was taken off theoretically she could have been transferred but she also has a small heart defect that needed extra monitoring until discharge. She came to my room during the day and for feeds but she was put on monitor when I was asleep.

DS was a csection and when they broke his water there was meconium. Being twins, we had NICU nurses and neonatologist present. They pumped his lungs which only took a few minutes. He was evaluated and decided he did not need to go to the NICU and was released to the regular nursery while I was in recovery.

I was induced for a slight water leak at 40+2. They broke my water later and found meconium. Peds were there at delivery and did a full check before he was given to me, but he never left the room. I think it lasted a max of about 10 minutes, but I think it was closer to 5.

My water broke at 40 weeks with no signs of labour and light meconium staining. My midwife assessed the situation and said it was likely just a sign of a mature baby since she wasn't in distress.
In the end I didn't go into labor on my own so I transferred to the hospital for an induction 24hrs later. Baby was delivered vaginally but the dr pulled her out because she had the cord wrapped around her neck TWICE! Despite this her apgar was 9 & 9 so absolutely perfect healthy girl! We ended up readmitted to the hospital for jaundice a few days later but I don't think that was related.

As a NICU nurse we attend any delivery that has meconium, who on our team that attends the delivery depends on if it is thick or thin meconium. If the baby is vigorous and crying at birth then we don't really do much but a quick assessment. If they come out and aren't initially crying or breathing we do a little more, suctioning below the vocal cords, ect. We rarely admit term meconium babies to the NICU, most are just fine. if they were admitted there is really no saying how long they will be there, it could just be a little respiratory distress that resolves quickly or if it is truly meconium aspiration syndrome they can be very sick, but we really don't see that very often I wouldn't worry about that.

41 weeks, induced. My water broke at the hospital about halfway through my labor and they found meconium in it. All they did was have a peds nurse on standby. I believe they just suctioned her really well and that was it. She was fine!

I went into labor at 39+2, and there was meconium in my water when it broke. We had a nicu team on the room when he was born and the labor nurse dropped my leg rushing him to the table (I couldn't feel it, epidural...) and they worked on him probably 20 minutes before I got him. No nicu time for us.

I had meconium when my water broke (it looked like I was leaking split pea soup) which meant I had to transfer from our birth center to the hospital. I ended up having a C-section and when she came out she was covered in poop. My midwife took pictures, she wasn't a swamp thing but it was gross. They did their regular suctioning and she was fine, no time spent in the NICU.

I was induced at 41+1 for high bp and when my water broke there was meconium in it. I was told the only change would be a pediatric team present at delivery to check LO out. I ended up with an emergency c section in the MOTN and I think there was a ped team there. They took LO right away (I didn't even see her first) but just to the other side of the room. She came out wailing so that was a good sign. I have no idea what she looked like or if they suctioned her or what else they did to her. I know it was very fast (like maybe 2 or 3 minutes at most?) and they wiped her down and gave her to my husband who brought her over to me to see while they sewed me up.

My son was born at 40 weeks 6 days and there was a lot of meconium in my water. Nothing was unusual about my labor--they just did normal monitoring, suctioned him when he was born, and everything was totally fine. I did have a fast 3-hour labor, though, so if it had been longer maybe they would have been more concerned about the meconium.

I delivered at 40w1d, and I had meconium when they broke my water. For us, it meant that they had to suction her really well after she was born, and that a neonatologist had to be present for delivery. They were able to get it all out, though, and she didn't need any NICU time. They put her on my belly first, then they took her to suction out while I delivered the placenta. I got her back while I was being stitched up.

Not my story but was there when the OB broke my friend's water last week and there was a lot of meconium. They didn't seem overly worried but said there would be a NICU team in there when she delivered. Baby's heart rate was good through 3.5 hours of pushing but he just didn't want to come out so she ended up with a c-section. Her DH said he looked like the Hulk when he came out because he was covered in green meconium. But he was fine, so they cleaned him up and she got to hold him very quickly after.

My water broke in the middle of the night, without contractions at 39w4d. I noticed there was a green tinge and called right away. We got to the hospital and at one point, it was pea soup. They monitored her while I was induced. I delivered her vaginally, without any complications. She came out pink and screaming! I pulled her up on me before I delivered the placenta. She never even left our room!

There was meconium when my water broke at 41 days exactly. My doula was very reassuring and my midwife was too - just told me to go ahead to the hospital. Everything proceeded normally - I was allowed to go in the labor tub for example - but I did end up with a uterine infection & LO did not tolerate labor well so I had a C section. I honestly don't know if the two were related.

She did not have to go to the NICU but they did say they had to take her to nursery and do all newborn procedures right away. That was not true - she had a good APGAR and vaccines have nothing to do with meconium!

My little guy was born at 41 weeks 2 days. When they noticed the meconium, prior to delivery, they had two NICU nurses come in the delivery room just in case. That kind of freaked me out, but was necessary. After doodle was born they just listened to his lungs, took a look and things were fine. He didn't have to go to the NICU or get any further treatment.
