I think i had mild ppd with #1. None to speak of with #2. Dare i say, a newborn the second time around is really easy. No anxiety because i knew what to expect and that i wasn't going to break her. I didn't even get the baby blues. I was very surprised.

@jedeve: Did that help? I'm pretty much doing the same thing by increasing the Zoloft as soon as she's born.

I immediately went on Lexapro after number two. I didn't want to get to the point where I thought I needed it.

Not exactly PPD, but I was in very bad shape mentally because when my three month leave ran out, I was working a full time, high stress job from home and caring for baby. I don't see doing things differently this time, I just can't leave a three month old for 10 hours every day if there's any alternative... but I also don't want to go back to wishing I were dead every day because of the stress. So this time I'm planning to find a nanny, and probably work from home only 2-3 days a week and take care of work emergencies when I'm in the office.

@Mamasig: Thanks! I'm hoping it's the same with my #2. At least this time I know from experience that it gets SO much better...and I will eventually sleep again.

I was never officially diagnosed but I had a lot of anxiety. It eventually went away in time with no meds. With my 2nd, I could feel the same emotions coming. It was like déjà vu. At my 2 week follow up, I told my OB and requested Lexapro. I had been on it years before and weaned myself off it. It made a world of difference. Those feelings went away and I enjoyed my newborn more. After about 6 months I weaned myself off (though sometimes I think I could still use it!)

Generally, everything was easier the second time. I just didn't worry as much because I knew everything would be ok. I was more laid back and didn't worry as much about how I was doing. I trusted myself more.

If you had PPD with #1, how did you do with #2? Did you do anything differently to try to avoid developing it again?

I had horrible PPD with my son and am due with #2 in about 4 weeks. I've been feeling great all pregnancy but am starting to get very nervous about developing PPD again. I see a therapist regularly and have stayed on a low dose of Zoloft through the pregnancy, with plans to automatically increase it after she's born. But I'm looking for any other tips that helped avoid (or at least lessen) PPD the second time around. I'm hoping just knowing that it really does get better will help a lot, but maybe that's wishful thinking :bummed:
