San Diego is a great place to visit. DH and flew from San Francisco to Sydney a few years back and there was a woman on our flight who was traveling with her 8 month old twins -- by herself!!! We traveled 12 hrs for 10 days to LA at 24 mths old while DD sleep was awesome, and the jet lag is seriously horrendous. When we returned home she had jet lag plus a sleep regression and she woke up every 1-2 hrs for 6 weeks after that. In my mind, it was so not worth it. I just did a 10.5 flight, 6 hr time difference for only 7 days, but it was worth it. I was worried about jet lag the most and it wasn't an issue because LO didn't sleep on the flights. She was too excited! DH is flying to South Africa in April for work and we could go with him. Ours would be a 6 hours flight, layover, and then another 11 hour flight. With a 6 hour time dofference. Ugh. </p> <p>My 21 mo old is a great sleeper and I really don't want to mess it up. We would also be on our own during the day while he works. It would be really cool to go on an adventure but its just not worth it for me. I took my daughter to New Orleans at that age for the same reason - tagging along on a work trip. The flights were only 5 hours total, but I'm absolutely petrified of flying, so it was hard to do alone. But it was totally, 100% worth it. We always go along on work trips - why not? Hell, we travelled from Australia to the US and UK enough times with babies that a 12 hr flight seems like a walk in the park (flights from Aus are anywhere from 24 hours to 31 hrs depending on where we were coming from or going to)! And they adjust to jet lag a heck of a lot quicker than adults do. I'd totally go.
