He's a great caretaker and helps out a lot on the weekends when he's off so he'll be fine. I need my me time too so I run solo errands a lot whenever I can.

They'd be 100% fine. DH knows what DS likes and when nap time and bedtime are. They may not eat as healthy but for a day that is fine.

In fact if I'm not around DS goes to bed so much easier.

No issues. He knows how to cart for her and is very involved in it. In fact, he gets every Sunday completely to himself because I work and up until 8 months old he also did half of all evenings by himself because I worked night shifts. It really blows my mind when I hear about Dad's who don't know how to care for their kids.

Can I leave my boobs at home? If so he'd be fine. I know he wouldn't follow routine though. He'd turn on one princess movie after another. Honestly I'd do the same if I had toddler & newborn alone for 24 hours.

Totally. Several months ago I would say no but DD1 is 2 and is perfectly happy switching between caretakers and DD2 is only 12 weeks but I'm much more laid back with her and he now knows how to read a baby's cues. They would all survive!

@Dandelion: Me too! It drives me nuts when we take LO to the doc or somewhere and they always direct questions about her routine to me. I'm like "I don't know. Ask the parent that's with her 24/7? I love her but I'm not always sure of the answer."

Toddler yes baby no. He handles primary care for our older when we are all ad home and I mostly handle baby. He would have to ask me what times to do naps (7mo still has no schedule) and times for bottles and how many oz in each bottle (he's breastfed). He knows bedtime obviously and the bed time routine Bc we switch off but I always fill the bottles for him if the baby gets a bottle. Kinda sad because with our first he knew everything.

I said yes but I guess the answer is sort of...? I mean she would survive, not go hungry, have diapers changed at the right times, and get her bath just fine. But I usually take care of all her food prep/decisions so he'd probably not feed her what I would (what she's used to), especially for snacks. She also probably wouldn't nap as long because she usually sleeps on me for the second half of her nap and she doesn't sleep as well on DH. But they'd be fine.

He knows LOs routine and would be fine with eating/sleeping stuff...the only thing is he might not take her outside as much as I like (I think she needs to go out at least twice a day, morning and afternoon--DH tends to laze around the house more).

Yes. He takes care of LO 2 days a week when I go to work and knows all his routines. DH is gone 4-5 days a week for work, so during growth/developmental spurts I have to catch him up, but he does excellent.

@Ms. Pug: DH always assumes hunger, as well. I left LO with him for an evening when he was 2 months old, and DH went through our complete freezer stash in a couple of hours - only 12 oz, at the time - but I'd fed LO before I left the house. I got home, and had a massively full, wet diaper to change! A 2 month old does not need to eat that much, especially when he's just tired!

We'll be dealing with this next week. I'm headed out of town for about 20 hours, and leaving my baby overnight for the first time. It should be pretty straightforward (and I'm sure he can figure it out without instructions), but I'm planning on leaving detailed instructions that he can choose to read or not read. My son's 8 months old, though-in the early days I left a list when I went to the grocery store!
