 @swurlygurl: I am REALLY worried about her nap! So does she just not go down for one or only when she's exhausted? M normally goes to sleep pretty easily in her crib for naptime, it's nighttime that was giving us trouble. So I'm not sure if I should use the crib for her nap or just go cold turkey and do it all? The room has blackout blinds, so that definately helps during these long summer hours!! That is so cute she has all those things in bed with her come morning time, I can totally see my LO doing this too

@yerpie110: awww too cute! I'm so happy reading all these great success stories! My LO really really hates her crib right now, it's causing some majot bedtime drama, so I hope this helps the situation....

We transitioned at like 18 months by taking the railing off the side and using the crib as a toddler bed (put up a shorter rail.) We had a rough week, she would get out and pound on the door, but eventually she just stopped doing it and would stay in bed and go to sleep. We transitioned due to her climbing out as soon as we put her in, it was a safety issue.

Now at almost 21 months we just switched her to a twin bed and she loes it.

We transitioned DS at around 19-20 months from crib to crib with toddler rails because he was trying to climb out of his crib - and getting stuck. I had tried at 18 m but he just wasn't ready so we put the rails away for another month or so and gave it another go. Then we transferred him from a crib with toddler rails to a twin bed with toddler rails just before his second birthday because we needed the crib for DD.

The first time was a wreck because it was all new and I did it in the middle of the afternoon. We tried for an hour to get him to go to sleep but ended the night with the toddler rails in the closet and the crib front back up. That was at 18 m. A few times when I was changig his crib linens I'd leave the mattress on the floor and let him nap on it then put the mattress back in the crib for bed time. Just so he'd get used to climbing on and off his bed. Then on Labor Day weekend, a nice long weekend, we took the crib front off first thing in the morning and let him play with his toddler railed crib all day and he actually napped and we managed to coax him to bed without too much trouble - and we haven't gone back since.

LO started hating the crib randomly around 14 months. We tried to stick it out, but she would cry horribly when we even got near the crib, forget in it. No idea why! We finally took the plunge and transitioned her to a floor bed at 15.5 months. It has been awesome! She's 17.5 months now. It's lengthened her nap times and she loves it - I think she likes to the space to roll around. She does not stay in bed when she's awake, but she has a pile of books in her room. She will go over and quietly read until I come get her (she can last up to 30 minutes), assuming the door is closed, and it usually is. All in all, I have loved it and wish we switched earlier!

@NovBaby1112: Now, naps are another story! And the daylight staying around longer during the summer has given us some tough nights... It's much more difficult for her to stay in bed when it's light enough in her room to see :( She's getting better about get back in though, which is nice. Sometimes when I get her in the morning she has an extra 4 stuffed animals, 3 books, her water cup, and some random toy. Crazy girl!

@locavore_mama: I'm hoping it goes as smoothly for us! M's sleep has also been crap lately- so maybe this will help. She seems ready too- aside from the climbing out, she seems to reallyyy hate her crib lately. And in the morning I asked her if she liked her big girl bed and she nodded and said yes :silly:

@swurlygurl: wow, that's awesome! staying in the bed part is what I am worried about...

@beachbee: glad it went well for you too! all these stories are giving me hope!

we moved LO to a floor bed (mattress on the floor) at 15 months. her sleep was always awful in the crib, and we were awaiting the arrival of LO #2, so we didn't really have much to lose in the sleep department. it went so much better than i expected! we did the same as you described above, stayed in the room with her until she was asleep and she actually started doing long stretches of sleep (in her crib she was still waking every 2-3 hours, and i was having to rock her to sleep first). four months later we're still loving the floor bed, but yes, we do still stay in the room until she falls asleep. once we're out of the newborn stage with LO#2 we're going to try tackling letting her fall asleep on her own :)

I moved L to a floor bed around 14 months? 15 maybe? I did it because I need the crib for Sister and wanted her to be good and settled before the new baby came. It went surprisingly well! I was soooo scared, but it really just took 1 night for her to get used to the fact that she had to stay in that bed. She only fell out maybe 3 or 4 times, but learned pretty quickly how to stay on the bed. I'm wondering if it was the early switch that made it so easy...

We took the rail off her crib right before 20 months. For us her sleep was so bad and transitions were taking forever. We had nothing to lose and was willing to try anything. Her sleep has been so much better ever since. She hardly ever gets out of bed when she wakes up.
We just switched her to a twin and that was very seamless as well.

I think the biggest thing for us is we felt she was ready.

how did it go? any tips?

LO is 19.5 months and has climbed out of crib 5 times now, within minutes of me leaving the room. Soooo last night I put her on floor mattress and laid next to her and she went to sleep pretty quickly, and woke around 6:15am- I was shocked! BUT, I really don't want to make it a habit of sleeping next to her until she falls asleep either.
