Really good tips! I would also go eat at your favourite restaurants, look into what you need to do to register her, add her to insurance, get her a passport, etc. Somewhere to put her paperwork is a must, tiny people accumulate paperwork surprisingly quickly.

@Thehistoryofus: good tips!

@blackbird: DH and I have been trying to do intentional things together before baby comes too. Most frequently In the past month - going to see movies in the theater since so many friends tell us they haven't been to the movies in over a year.

Using up restaurant gift cards for dates.

I've been trying to just organize, clean, and edit! Especially after our showers, just trying to make sure we have a good assortment of supplies and things we NEED and Not a bunch of stuff we don't. This includes making a bunch of returns and exchanges as I'd rather have credit to buy things when we need them vs. trying to exchange months down the line with an infant in tow.

Is your nursery all done? That's what's been taking up most of my time this week.

Oooo picking up bins and setting aside some garage space is a good idea.

@2peasinapod, we just got back from Mexico :P trip accomplished!

Organize my house and clean stuff up!!

I would have created a folder on my desktop for the baby pictures to go into.

I would have created a file in the filing cabinet for her important paper work.

I would have created a spot in the garage and purchased 4 large bins to pack up outgrown infant clothes/gear (you know it'll happen, plan for it early).

I would have practiced recipes that are quick and easy.

Get out of the house! Take a small trip somewhere b/c it will be a huge ordeal once the baby is here. Baby gear is not easy or quick to pack up!

freezing meals, watching lots of tv, more knitting, more meals out with friends. Once LO arrived, we became hermits especially when he was colicky.

@blackbird: someone gave me good advice to wash clothes only as you need those sizes (i.e. don't wash the 6 month clothes until LO is wearing 6 month clothes). I'm glad I followed this advice b/c I recently had to return a bunch of 9 month clothes b/c DS grew into them faster than we though (they're all spring clothes and it's a balmy 5 degrees here today).

@Weagle: I agree! Very little is *necessary* before the baby arrives.

ah, you guys make it sound like i have nothing left to do :P

I don't nap, DH and I spend lots of time together when we can (aside from our projects--we're both in grad school), our DVR is full...I just keep wondering what I'm going to say, "wow I wish I would've done XYZ before the baby came"

eta: freezing meals I will do closer to mid March. And i figure after the shower, there will be TONS of washing and organizing to do in that room :P

I would sit my big pregnant butt on the couch and watch as many of the movies/TV shows that were in my queue as possible! And read!

I guess if you really want to prep, if you'll be using bottles, I'd sterilize everything. Get her newborn clothes washed and put away. I don't know, there wasn't much on the baby front to prepare besides what you've done already.

I'd read one childbirth book, two sleep books (moms on call 0-6m and happiest baby on the block - or just watch the DVD), go to a weekend natural child birth class, set up a nursery that's comfortable for you, take a lot of naps, spend time alone with your husband (and pet if you have one), record a bunch of shows to watch while breastfeeding, and enjoy feeling the baby's kicks inside. I miss them :)

Intentional QT with DH. Seriously. We would have visited those museums, watched those movies, etc. we did do that, but not nearly enough. There's nothing baby related that I feel is necessary before baby comes.

What would you do? In hindsight, what would've been helpful for you to do before the baby came?

I feel like I need to do something to get ready for her! I have about 9-10 weeks to go. I've taken Mrs. Bee's advice and done some reading on baby sleep and I've also enrolled in a breastfeeding class.

I guess this is my way of trying to feel prepared. I've been sewing quilts for her, the shower is this weekend...yikes!
