We just started this two weeks ago and it has been seriously amazing. Our nanny is in her 50's and works with us in the morning and a different family in the afternoon.

She works from 7-10 or 11. She's there before DS wakes up. She prepares his lunch and breakfast, dresses him and takes him to school, then comes back and either does laundry or preps or cooks dinner. It's really been a game changer!

When I've had to hire nannies (3 now), it's always best to say everything up front in the ad, including all duties. We've found one on care, one on sitter city and one word of mouth. This lady was like a 7 day turnaround. It was pretty sweet!

@ShootingStar: We are in the same situation but are considering an afternoon nanny. I am due with #2 in March - she will join DD at daycare. September of 2017 they will both likely transition to public pre-school location (or may be split for one year).

DH and I both work demanding jobs (attorney and financial controller) which can sometimes require long hours. We are thinking when DD1 moves to public school - it will be a "wash" to hire someone to pick her up (school will end at 3pm for her) and also collect the little one.

I have had preliminary discussions with our favorite daycare teacher/and babysitter about a fixed schedule (3pm-6pm everyday). Her normal hourly is $15, but she said for a fixed 15 hour a week job she would be negotiable. My preliminary comments to her would be the following tasks:

-pick up kids spaces
-start/finish laundry (once or maybe twice a week...kid related only)
-snack plus kitchen clean up
-minor dinner prep (turning on crock pot, putting casserole in the oven, etc)

The only item I want to discuss with her still would be some grocery shopping in not normal circumstances. IE - I need xyz asking her to get DD1 then hit the grocery store before getting DD2. I worry this would add the complexity of a credit card or means to purchase...so still unsure!

My aunt is a part-time nanny. She comes early in the morning to get the child ready and takes her to school. Then she picks her up in the afternoon and watches her/takes her to activities until the parents get home later. She LOVES it.

It means she has basically a huge stretch of time in the middle of the day, but she can either stay and do additional projects for the family (organizing, etc.) or go home for awhile/do personal stuff.

Following - in almost the same boat. Expecting #2 and work very early (arrive at my office by 7:30) so DH is on his own with LO1 every morning and takes her to school. I imagine he will need some intermittent help getting 2 kids dressed and to 2 different schools every morning :(

How does that work?

I'm currently pregnant with LO#2. I work a demanding job and so does DH. I've basically been told that if I want to advance my career I need to put in more face time (ugh). The only option I want to consider right now is getting to work earlier. Working later will mess with our night time routine too much.

Right now DH leaves for work at 6:45 and I solo with DS every morning. It always takes me longer to get out of the house than I like, and that's with one child. I'm imagining with two, it's going to be exponentially longer.

It would be really helpful to have someone help or completely take over getting 2 kids ready. I'd also love for someone to be able to take on some kid related stuff, like bottle washing and the kids laundry.

Obviously that stuff doesn't take all day, so I'm trying to figure out how this would work. Do I have them just completely take over and take both to daycare (right around the corner) and come back and do house stuff for another hour or 2? That would free me up to leave probably 1-1.5 hours earlier for work than I currently can. Or I guess I could have them just get the kids ready and I could continue to drop off on my way to work.

Our other option is to have a nanny 2 days a week. We'd do daycare the other 3 days. I'd WFH one day so I can put in longer hours without the commute, and DH would take over mornings one day a week as well. This is the better option in terms of money, but obviously less convenient than having someone every day.
