Nope. If you (a) trust them to care for your child and (b) trust them to transport your child - aka gave them a carseat - then I think you've got to trust their discretion on where they take your kid.

If I told my parents that I needed to know where they were at all times (if not at home) because they had my child I think they might would tell me that it was best if I had a more structured option like daycare. Luckily I love when my parents take my son on outings - as does my son!

@erinbaderin: just saw your response... agreed (and put much more eloquently :silly: )

Grandparents no way, a nanny - yes if they are driving since it's a rare occurrence. Although I guess if you're paying the grandparents then you might have more say over this. We don't pay for grandparent care so I'm certainly not going to inconvenience them any further.

Not bothered at all with grandparents. I would care much more with non-relatives.

We had a babysitter come 4-5 mornings per week to watch my daughter when she was an infant. I WAH, so I needed them out of the house and they would be out for 3-4 hours at a time. I didn't mind, but they were also just going out with the stroller. I would have probably felt differently if a car had been involved.

With grandparents I definitely wouldn't expect this. With a nanny I would be fine with things like the park, etc without telling me. But I wouldn't want her taking my kids out and about while she ran her personal errands (so something like HD would annoy me if my kids were with someone other than family).

You're out at work? No, I wouldn't, but I'd expect them to have a cell phone so I could contact them. If you trust somebody to look after your kid all day it seems a bit micromanagey for them to have to tell you every time they leave the house. If you worked from home I might feel differently.

Would you ask them to let you know before they go out on errands with your child? Would it matter to you the age of the child?

My son is 7 months old and his grandparents care for him everyday. I've asked them lightheartedly before to tell us before taking him places, and that's in their written directions. Yesterday they took him to Home Depot and the park without letting us know. I know it seems silly, but it bothers me a little bit because I like knowing where my child is during the day.

ETA: We pay them about half the cost of an in-home daycare. These trips always involve driving.
