We had a medicine cabinet/mirror to put some stuff in (tooth brushes, medicines we use often), and then a set of cube storage shelf things next to it. We had a 2x2 but I've seen 2x1 too if you didn't have as much room. Pedestal sinks are lovely in a guest bathroom but in the master it's just annoying. Plus we have no closet in our master bath. We have a small glass shelf next to the sink, and two metal shelves above the toilet. They both get crowded and look messy if we aren't really careful about putting every single thing away just so (which is always).
