I can't help specifically on size since we are a size or two behind you (16 month old wearing mostly 6-12 mo for width but starting to have length issues now that it is winter; 12 - 18 months is massive on her). I can tell you how we get around the problem though - by doing mainly 2 PC outfits. Skirts and shorts can be pretty short over footless tights / leg warmers or leggings, and I have her wear smaller sized dresses (when the bigger size would look sloppy) as tunic tops when they're a bit short. Jeans are tricky but I've found Uniqlo jeggings run pretty skinny. I'm not very into Carter's, but we have a few sets from them that include leggings or jeggings which are much slimmer than the usual cut - if your shop in person it is pretty obvious in the hanger which these are. Hope that's a little helpful

DS is 2.5 years old (5th percentile) and starting to fit into 18-24m from Baby Gap. Unfortunately he is in between sizes. The 18-24m is too short in the sleeves but fits his body well. The 2T is really roomy. =\

S is light, only 23/ 24 lbs, but 96th in height, so at 18 months she's growing out of 2T lengthwise. The waists on pants are too big, so she wears a lot of leggings, or we buy those pants that have the straps inside you can tighten to make the waist smaller.

It totally just depends on the brand! My 18 mo is 20 lbs and probably 31 inches. Old navy 18-24 fits well but gap he's swimming in it! Carters he fits well into pants and sleepers but tops are too short. Pants he is only just now fitting into 12-18 most places. We aren't going to be in 2t for awhile still.

Olive is 24 months right now and 2T is a little big on her while 18-24 months fits her perfectly. She is about the size of your LO -- 21 pounds and 75% for height.

I still buy 2T though right now because she is growing so fast (heightwise).

My baby has finally caught up in her proportions a bit at 26 months. She's too long for 18 month stuff, and even for some 24 month stuff. But in general, she really does not fill out the butt in 2T, to the point where it just falls off of her. She's catching up, though, to a point.

My little dude is 27 pounds and 2 1/2 years old. He fits in 12- 18 month clothes but they are a bit short (he is in the 50th percentile for height). So we do buy 2T for clothes and just roll them up. His closet is a mix of 12-18m, 18-24m and 2T clothes.

I'm not picky about fit on shirts, so I buy 2T even though my 26 month old is skinny and the arms are long on him. For pants, it's harder to roll the legs or the waist, so I buy them based on the waist, which is 18-24 month. Also, certain brands work better for him and I try to stick to those.

Same as @Rainbow Sprinkles: LO is tall and skinny (20th% and 75thish%), so a lot of stuff is just big in the waist. Cloth diapers help :). I've noticed that her 18 months shirts are starting to get a little short, so I'm just going to skip ahead to 2T. They seem to be the same length but not as wide. We just roll sleeves.

My LO is 18 months and 20 lbs. I'm buying her 18-24 right now, but it definitely has room. I stick with 18 month stuff at Target for pants, but can get away with 2T in tops. But her waist is so narrow, I don't see her movin up from 18 month leggings for a while!

My 20.5 month old is pretty petite - she's just now hit 21 LBS and has always been around 10 - 15th percentile for weight. She's tall, though, and is probably in the 60th percentile for height.

I'm having such a hard time with sizing right now. 12 - 18 is getting short on her, but fits perfectly otherwise. 18 - 24 is a great length, but too big around the waist, arms, etc. ARGH.

So if you have or had a petite LO:

(1) How long and when did they wear 18 - 24?

(2) When did they start wearing 24 months/2T? The 2T stuff from baby Gap looks so huge - I can't imagine her wearing that when she's 2.
