My goal for this year is to put together a file with all of our important documents including bank account information so that it can be easily found if something happens to us. But I haven’t don’t that last step yet. We might have a copy of it with all of our other important stuff but it’s not in safe let alone a fireproof one...should look into that! Ideally, I'd like both sets of parents and our kid's guardians to also have a copy, but not there yet. DH has specs on what it would take to make a safe truly fireproof and it involves concrete. We also store duplicates of most important paperwork in my mom's lock box - they live two miles from us, so we have easy access to them but it's unlikely something would ever happen to both houses at the same time. I was looking into fireproof safes, but how do you know they're actually fireproof without setting it on fire and testing it out? And some of them are only good for half an hour, but if we were to die in a fire, I feel like it would probably be blazing for longer than half an hour. Should we do a safety deposit box? Where does everyone else keep theirs?
