But one company today told us that we really don't need it because we won't run the AC enough in New York. He said 16 is more for the South where it's run all year and 13 should be fine for us... I am not sure what my current one is but I'm guessing it's much lower than that since it's from 1999. We got a quote for a new one last week and the price difference between a 13 SEER and a 14.5 SEER was $400 I think. I think the guy told my husband that only improves the efficiency by about 5%? Not sure how much that would save on the electric bill.
