I played with the ones closest to me in age a lot when I was a kid. Now, I see the closest ones a few times a year. On my moms side I am the oldest and there are some close in age. The youngest is about 12 years younger. I was close with a lot of them growing up and we saw them lots. On my dads side there are a few older than me by about 3-4 years and the youngest is probably 16 years younger. We rarely see them even though they live the closest because of wild political differences (their choice not ours). On my mom's side we are way more spread out- 25 years between oldest and youngest with a total of 13 first cousins including us. My mom is one of seven kids and my grandma was one of five so there are lots of people on that side! My oldest cousin's kids are close to my age. On that side, we all just tend to hang out with whoever is in our age range/ stage of life instead of who is "our" cousin. I'm closer to my mom's cousins on the younger end who are in their 30s with kids my age than I am to my cousin who is in his mid 40s with adult children. There's 9 on my mom's side ranging in age from 31-15. I'm 2nd from the youngest at 24. We see each other at most holidays and make it a point to go to weddings, graduations, etc. We all live within a couple of hours of each other. We'll sometimes get together for the heck of it and do something like go to an amusement park. We call it cousin's day. On my dad's side there's 8 cousins ranging from mid 30's to 5th grade. I fall right in the middle. There's also 8 kids belonging to my cousins that range from 8th grade down. Again, see each other at most holidays and make weddings, graduations, showers, etc a priority. Less likely to socialize with this group of cousins but probably see them more regularly because they live a tad bit closer. So we only saw them once a year and we weren't very close. Hubs' cousins are all close in age to him and his brothers and they all grew up within 20 minutes of each other, so they are super-close. There are three age groups, four "older cousins," four "younger cousins" and then a pack of three in the middle. I am the youngest of the older cousins, so I am kind of in the middle. We are all very close to one another as far as cousin relationships go, and I feel so lucky to have had so many cousins growing up. It's weird to think that my kids will probably not have that, as I only have one brother and one sister and we all live too far away from each other now to have our kids "grow up" together. My dad and his twin brother are a decade younger than their two siblings, so that explains the age gap. We were always sort of thought of as two separate sets of cousins (4 bigs, 4 littles). Now that we're older it doesn't make as much of a difference. I have 8 cousins on my mom's side, and they're spread out over 15 years or so, but most of them are within a few years of me. Growing up we all (on both sides) lived in the same 20 mile area, so we saw each other all the time. I have 10 first cousins. Mom's side there are 5: oldest is around 38 and youngest is around 27. All but 2 grew up together (my uncle was in the air force so they lived out of state on base most of their life). Dad's side there are also 5: oldest is around 40 youngest is around 20. Nobody grew up near each other. All the cousins are spread out by three years. I'm the baby at 27 and the oldest is 42. I think because there was always someone in the middle to bridge the age gap we all ended up really close. We are spread out so we don't see each other often but when we do it's awesome. We are actually all going to the beach together (and with our parents, SOs, kids, etc) this August and I am SO EXCITED. One family which is My uncle and his 3 kids, no one really talks to them much, but the others are all VERY close- like hang out all day every day close. They're all about 5-8 years older than me and when I lived 2 minutes away from them I was young so we didn't really hang out toooo much, now that i'm older to be enjoyed by them I live about 45 min away so we don't see each other enough. She was the only grandchild for a LONG time! On my mom's side, I have 2 cousins who are 8 and 12 years older than me. They've all had children of their own now and I am 8-12 years older than all of them. I was just in a weird age gap between my cousins and their children, with no one my age! As an only child I found it to be a bit lonely in my family. The other 2 are in elementary school (their dad/my uncle got divorced and remarried a lady in her 20s when he was 50, then they had kids) I'm only close to the 10 year old cousin on my mom's side. I also have a few third cousins on my mom's side that I used to be close to because we grew up together. One of them is due in November with her first baby and I'm due in February. We're also 3 months apart in age, so that's pretty cool.
