Today our doorbell rang and when I answered there was a bag with homemade chocolate chip cookies from one of DS friends. It was so sweet.

Near the beginning of staying home DS wrote a letter to one of his school friends. He didn’t get one in return though.

@DillonLion: My 10 yr old does that, too. She also does Zoom calls with a group where they do different things. Play make up together, do workouts, online games, watch videos on YouTube together etc. My 7 yr old doesn’t seem to miss her friends. Glad they have each other so they’ve been content. This must be hard for only children.

I should add, someone started a “sticker club” which is one of those pyramid schemes for letters ... you send stickers to one person on a list then you send 6 letters and and those people each do the same so in theory you get 36 letters w stickers if everyone does it ... I usually hate that kind of thing but my 8yo has been so excited to get the mail! My 5yo is jealous though :silly:

My kids both have several Zoom meetings a week, so I think they still feel connected, but we still do FaceTime calls with their friends 1-3 times a week.

We’ve done other little things like my 6 year old drew a picture for a friend and we took it to their house and taped it to their door and then texted them it was there. Anther little girl in our building has dropped off several little homemade crafts, so those little things help.

My 7 year old does pretty long and elaborate 1:1 zooms with a few of her friends. She does different things with different friends; with one they often read to each other, with another they are working on some kind of convoluted comic book project.

DS1 is 7 and he talks/plays with the neighbour kids over the fence. It’s kind of cute. They do things like hide & look, red light green light or just chat and run around their own yards.

For school friends we have a few in messenger kids and another few he face time’s with.

Any fun ideas for how to keep them connected to their friends? My 5yo doesn’t care that much but I’d like to do more for my 8yo. What have you been doing / invited to? Any ideas to share?

Another mom organized a cute zoom tea party. She dropped off packaged mini donuts and juice and they painted together and then ran around doing a scavenger hunt like “find something round” “find a toy with wheels” etc. We did a zoom one week where a few girls read their poetry assignments to each other. They have about once a week zoom for their class (there’s no actual instruction for us) but it’s a big crowd. Sometimes we yell across the street at a neighbor friend! :silly:
