@Sugar.Biscuit: I could have written exactly the same thing! I hate socks and I really hate shoes! We have hardwood except in our kitchen and bathrooms where we have tile. I only put socks on if I am really cold.

I remember my parents didn't want me to go without socks in our (barefoot) home because they felt it was bad for my health to have cold feet. And that was in CA!

@shopaholic: I don't know if my vote should count. Yes we had a tile house and we were always barefoot but it was in Florida. So winter was like a week of 30 degrees.

I grew up not wearing shoes in the house with carpet & I hate wearing socks, its a texture thing. As an adult I still walk barefoot around the house even though we have hard wood floors & my feet are cold. I will at times put socks on but usually on snow days or when it is super cold outside. I do the same with my shoes. Ill wear flip flops as long as I can cause I hate the feeling that my feet are suffocating.

I think a lot of people might say our house is too cold. I think we all just run hot. We turn up the heat when people come over if we remember. Im horrible with aummer heat, though! We have all tile and hardwood, but I think it's just coincidence :)

I am not sure if I am tougher against the cold or not, but I constantly walk around barefoot and our whole house is hardwood (tile in kitchen and bathroom). We let lo crawl around on it and she doesn't usually wear socks because she just rips them off and puts them in her mouth. We keep the temp at 70-71.

We did realize that wearing socks made it difficult for DS to walk and cruise, so I leave him barefoot most of the time as he's just starting to walk. I'll put socks back on him once he masters walking.

I think being "strong" against the cold is biological, not environmental. I have lived in cold places all my life (including four years in Montana where winters get -30 and colder) and we have all hardwoods in our house and I'm still a wuss against the cold. :)

Well, I live in Canada, so throughout the winter and fall I wear socks or slippers in the house. In the spring and summer when I don't wear socks outside then I go barefoot in the house. My LO will probably do the same! Last summer I never put socks on him (but he was also super little) and throughout this entire winter I've put socks on him everyday.

I don't think you're a wuss though...I love wearing slippers!

Do you let your LO go around the house barefoot most of the time?

DH grew up in a house with all marble and ceramic tiled floors. His nephews are there all the time too and barefoot. Everyone in his family is so much "tougher" against the cold than I am (and everyone else who comes to their house for that matter! lol!) I'm always FREEZING at their house! Even in our house now with all the hardwood, my feet get really cold unless I have the heater or slippers on. #imawuss

DH said going barefoot on tile makes you stronger/tougher against the cold. I'm thinking there is some truth in this? What do you think & do?
