I'm not sure that we would... In the end, even though we had hired a doula, I labored mostly at home alone with just my husband due to the fact that my labor progressed extremely slowly over 3 days. My husband turned out to be amazing support, and I was able to work through the pain with my own willpower much more than I could have imagined. I did end up succumbing to an epidural 3 days into my labor due to sheer exhaustion. But next time around I think I'll save my money and try to achieve a natural labor on my own.

Yes! I know I'd need the same reassurance and guidance especially if I want to go natural for #2 like I did for #1!

Our doula was worth every penny! We would love to have her again, but we'll be delivering in another hospital next time (farther than she will travel). Also, I'll probably be delivering with a great group of midwives, so I don't know that it will be necessary.

Not only do I want a doula again, I really want the same doula! She was amazing, worth every penny!

Yes, I would. We were planning on a natural birth in a birth center but ended up transferring to the hospital and I had a C-Section. My doula was awesome during this process and if I have a second child I'd like to VBAC so I definitely would want her help again.

We did not hire one the first time and ended with a long long labor and a csection. I am considering hiring one for baby #2. Either hiring a doula or having my mother be a part of the labor process. (She was an L&D nurse for 25 years!) The first time my husband really wanted it to be just him and I - which I understood at the time, but now I am looking for a VBAC and hope that we have someone to help us make better decisions.

We had a doula with Charlie, but didn't line one up for Olive because I was originally supposed to have a scheduled c-section (but ended up with a vbac).

I have no regrets though because I had a great labor nurse and doctor. If I were attempting a vbac from the get go, I'm not sure I would hire a doula since it would be my second child.

If you hired a doula with your first, are you planning on hiring one for your second?
