Mine failed for a long time, but it was still better than max pitocin contractions.

After 3 failed epidurals with my first delivery, I just KNEW I was cursed and it wouldn't work. But each failed epidural DID take full effect and gave me total pain relief for at least a couple of hours each, so the second time I decided to get as far along into labor as I could (and work with the anesthesiology team to have them at my beck and call) so that I'd have a chance of just the first epidural lasting long enough to take me to pushing. I'm glad I made that call (as soon as I felt like I was going to go out of my mind with pain the team was in and getting the epi into me) even though I ended up with a dural puncture and a blood patch two nights later. I delivered LMW completely pain-free and so so so happy.

No. I didn't get any rest/sleep/time to relax even though it worked for a bit. And the side effects were awful. I wanted them to take it out.

If I knew it wouldn't work, I think I would have been torn between not getting it (and saving some money) and trying it anyway. I was getting so close to throwing up and freaking out from the pain (I'm a wuss) that I might just get it in hopes that it could ease the pain.

Mine lightened during labor. Once it was increased, it made delivery amazing with little pain.

Nope, I would rather let my body produce the endorphin's to help cope with the pain all the way through.

No. I wanted an Epi SO badly when I hit transition but it was just to late. It was placed but during the placement I got the urge to push so I never actually got any meds. So I had to go threw getting it placed and having it removed for NO reason. If I could do it over again I would absolutly not ask for it since it did me no good.

Yes, mine ended up not working the last 2 hours on my left side anyway so I could feel just about everything. If I had not had a break before then I think I would have went crazy.

Would you have still gotten it?

I would have. By the time he was born I'd been up nearly 36 hours, and I was exhausted. I was so grateful to have the little bit of pain relief I got from it, and more importantly the rest that it let me have. I believe I would have been too tired to push and would have ended up with a csec if I hadn't gotten the little rest I did.
