@hilsy85: But my girls are in school from 8:30-5:30. They get home at 6, eat and get ready for bed. No time for TV.

It might be different if we were home more!

@Mrs. Jacks: that makes total sense and is exactly how I do screen time--at expected intervals (just a lot more often than you :silly: )

@hilsy85: Our kids like structure, so we tend to do it after dinner and before teeth brushing on Friday nights and Saturday nights. I know we're no fun, but the girls never ask for it because they know exactly when to expect it :)

We don't schedule it really....but it works out that she watches some either before and/or with dinner because that's the only time there is to watch tv! If she gets up super early, she ends up getting a Daniel Tiger while getting ready, if she sleeps in there isn't time.

We didn't really give her any until I got my iPad a few weeks ago and then she got addicted to a Baby Einstein animals video and would go NUTS until I played it for her so I stopped showing her it altogether. Now she gets screen time (that animal video) when I have medical appointments and need her to sit nicely and sometimes to get her into the stroller. I'm not too proud of that last one. I play the Elmo brush teeth vid at teeth cleaning time if her jaw is clamped shut, lol. So, a few minutes a day usually but only if we need it. It doesn't seem to bring out the best in her otherwise.

We don't schedule it. She doesn't watch any shows but she loves watching music videos on YouTube. So we let her watch that here and there throughout the day. Never for a long time but just enough for her to get her dance on!

#1 is 4. She gets one hour on non-school nights only. It's all at once.

#2 is 2. She gets 10 minutes maybe once or twice a week. I feel like her executive function is still developing, so we try to limit it for her.

We do a little bit at a few different times throughout the day. I don't exactly time it, I just try to keep it short and when we really need a quiet distraction. Aquabots is my new favorite!

@hilsy85: Doc splits into two so there's a good stopping point, she gets to hear the "I feel better" song which is most important. Usually I say "want to go to daycare" and that trumps all!

We don't schedule it...it's usually just used as needed (in the morning while I'm getting ready, after work when I get dinner ready..) It's usually about 20 mins a day. She doesn't sit still for longer than 10 mins anyways. Do you have netflix? We use that more than our cable bc it's easier to go back to episode/etc

@mrsjyw: see, I started out just doing it randomly, but found that he actually asked for it more when he got it at a random time during the day. He kind of knows now when he is "allowed" to watch so he whines less. That's awesome that your LO isnt really into it!

Daniel tiger has segments! One epi then a short real life segment then sec ep and another real life clip of irl kids!

We dont schedule in screentime. Hell get an episode or two, usually broken up in one week. Sometimes none. Depends on if I am solo and need to cook or something like that or if hes sick etc.

Either way ds cant sit still for more than 10 min at a time n gets up from watching the ipad. We end it then continue at another time as needed or wa nted!

She usually watches the first part of a Doc McStuffins episode in the morning while dirnking her milk while we finish getting ready (10 minutes) and then finishes the episode or watches Sofia the First when I cook dinner. So she's at about 30-40 minutes a day or so. Daycare she watches some, but she's usually playing and doesn't sit and watch.

Depends. Usually on nights I'm solo if extra clingy she watches an episode while I make dinner.

Others I'm so tired and fatigued and if she won't play independently I'll let watch an episode so I can lay down on the couch with her.

Daniel tiger episodes are split into two. So you can always let him him watch just half!

If you let your LO have screentime, do you schedule it? As in, is there a specific time of day when you let your LO watch a certain amount of screentime? Or does it occur at different points throughout the day, depending on the day?

LO gets about 20 minutes a day--he watches 1 10 minute show after breakfast and 1 10 minute show before nap/after lunch. I like being able to split it that way, but makes it tough to introduce half hour shows to him, like Daniel Tiger.
