I don't drink soda, and I hardly ever drink other sweet beverages. Most of the time, I drink water, unsweetened iced tea, coffee with milk and sugar, hot tea, wine, and the occasional cocktail. Every once in awhile I have orange juice or lemonade, but that happens less than once per month.

I haven't really modified my habits (other than alcohol for pregnancy/nursing), but I would not feed the baby most of the things that I drink!

We mostly drink water. Iced tea on occasion and during Xmas, a kind of local rootbeer (Julmust), but we don't let LO have any. She's used to not having exactly what we're having because of all her food allergies earlier on.

DH and I only drink water and the occasional diet coke. She's allowed water, milk and sometimes diluted juice, but we don't often buy it since a container of juice lasts a long time 1 tablespoon at a time.

Grandpa gives her full strength juice though, and she thinks it's pretty fabulous.

My son is only 16 months, but he only drinks almond milk and water. He loooves water, so I see no reason to give him juice right now.

The only thing I limit is sparkling water because DS is totally obsessed with it. We are struggling with weight gain so I don't like him to have too much water. Otherwise we mainly buy beer, coffee, and tea and DS doesn't even try to have any.

I only drink water and occasionally sparkling cider and coffee. I didn't grow up drinking juice and neither did DH so we never have that in the house! LO strictly only drinks milk and water. She's had juice a couple times at parties but that's it. Doesn't seem to faze her just sticking to those two beverages!

LO only has water, milk or homemade fruit and veggie smoothies. He's never shown too much interest in anything else besides talking about the fact that coffee (or anything in a mug) is hot and then he wants to touch the side of the mug to feel if it is. I think we were probably curb any soda intake once he's old enough to understand and try to have it when he's asleep but it definitely won't stop us completely. Sometimes there will just be things that are the way they are "because we said so".

She does her juice at school which I don't really like but don't want her to feel left out since she already brings her own lunch due to food allergies.

@shopaholic: My drink of choice is juice or iced tea (sweeten, of course). I do have a sweet tooth for desserts and candy. I'm wondering how hard it will be to restrict these foods & beverages from them.

My one mommy friend gives her daughter water and diluted juice, but she drinks water herself. So I think it's easier for her to promote that. I can't stand regular water. (I mean, I'll have it if I'm at the gym and need to have a drink, but you won't ever see me grab a bottle of water.) I'll drink gatorade, juice, iced tea and if I have to soda.

I'm just wondering if it's easier to 'train' myself to drink less sugary drinks so I won't give in and give them to the LO.

I've been terrible about Coca-Cola since I had LO, but I know I need to cut drinking it (and I try to avoid it when I'm around her) because she always wants to drink from my cups. I pretty much drink ice tea most of the time and if she's really insisting on it and I can't redirect, I'll let her have 1 or 2 sips only (no sugar). But I have been trying to drink plain water more often. No coffee or juice for me. We do say a firm No and explain beer and wine are for mommy or daddy only.

Yeah, I don't eat foods or drinks that I don't want my daughter to consume. I'm a big believer in the importance of the food environment - keep only the food that you want your kids to eat, then don't restrict it. My husband drinks alcohol, so we talk about how that's just for adults.

I was never a juice or soda drinker. I drink coffee & hot teas but my LO has been "ruined" & won't even touch milk or juice because she's so used to all the water we drink around here. I started eating clean and then mostly "primal" when we started LO on solids because I wanted to set a good example/have nothing in the house that I wouldn't want her to eat, so I imagine that if I had been a huge juice/soda drinker I probably would have cut back to be an example.

We just drink coffee, milk, and water at home already. Very occasionally my husband will buy orange juice (for a mixer, haha) or cranberry juice or beer or something. LO eats a lot of oranges on an almost daily basis, so I have no reason to offer orange juice.

I don't really drink juice, so we just don't have it in the house. I allow Liam to have it at parties or for special occasions, but it's not an everyday thing. We do drink soda or sparkling water occasionally, but he doesn't. He doesn't like the bubbles, anyway, so for now it's not an issue.

If anything, LO is taking after what I drink. I dilute lemonade...just a splash of lemonade and the rest water...just helps me to drink more. LO started wanting to drink from my glass, and he started requesting "memade" too. It's just a splash, so I don't mind. Prior to that, he drank straight water. He never drank milk outside of a bottle, and I never forced it.

No, but we recently gave up pop and we don't drink. So, she only drinks water and a little milk, while mom and dad drink juice, water, milk, and the occasional Starbucks drink.
