Depending on whether we have to move home next month.
If not, the new baby will be at least three months old. With DD I took her back for a flying visit at six months (dying family member) and a longer trip at nine months. We haven't been back since.

I'm due in mid June and I'm flying back home for a baby shower the very last week of April. We also went home for Thanksgiving, but I wasn't very far along at that point.

My in-laws are a plane ride away. They (MIL and SIL) want to come to my shower and I will be going to SIL's. We're planning my shower when I'll be 31 weeks and SIL's when I'll be 32 weeks so we can both travel (she's due two days before me). They also plan on visiting in August sometime with SIL's baby. DH and I plan on going back there for Thanksgiving so grandma and LO can meet. She'll be 5 or so months then.

I would think either pre-babies or post-babies would be fine. I think June would be safe for a shower. Or, if the babies come early, at the holidays too when they might be 3 months?

I flew with my baby across country (MD to OR) when she was 7.5 weeks (and again at 11 weeks) and it totally fine. She was still at the age where she slept much of the time. I went solo and didn't have any issues. I have tentative plans to fly when DD#2 is ~6 weeks old to attend a family reunion, though I would probably be going by myself again and the thought of traveling with a 2 yo and a 6 week old is daunting.

If you book anything, I'd just make sure your tickets are changeable/refundable. Southwest is a good one for situations where you need more flexibility (full fare can be credited back to you if you have to cancel).

My thoughts - it's not impossible to take newborns on a plane but I wouldn't do it at that age, especially with twins and at the holidays. People are sick in the winter and at 2 months they're still at the age where if they have a fever you have to take them to the ER and possibly get a lumbar puncture. Going out in June for the shower sounds like good timing, and it's before it gets really hot here!

ETA - Now that he's 8 months my dad really wants me to bring him to CA or Hawaii and I would except for LO's intense hatred of outings in general. Otherwise I'd do it.

We didn't fly home during the pregnancy. We opted for a babymoon in NYC at 5 months instead.

LO was born in late August and we took across the country for Christmas at 3.5 months. I was really nervous about it, but she did great on the airplane. We took her to Europe at 7 months and she did great then too!

I'm a 5-6 hour flight from home (east coast) and I'm wondering when others have planned their trips back home?

Did you go home for the baby shower or are you planning a trip for after the baby arrives? Or did you plan it around usual travel dates (like holidays or summer break)?

With our Oct due date, I could travel home in June-ish for a baby shower. Or I could skip the June trip and do a baby moon to Florida. Also, we usually go home for Thanksgiving or Christmas. Is it even a good idea to take a baby on a flight at 2 months? I know some family has offered to come to us for the holidays but I know not all will make it out. It's always been easier for us to fly home to meet everyone, but with the possibility of twins, it definitely complicates things.
