I don't know if where I live qualifies as *really* cold, but it's super cold right now. We keep our strollers in the entrance of our apartment (folded) because I find it more convenient than schlepping all our stuff + LO to the car to get the stroller. But that's because we only use the stroller when we're walking places.

I do see people store them outside, outside though--even in rain and snow. Generally people who live in shared walkups with no hall closet keep their strollers locked outside with the rain covers on. I've seen strollers totally piled up with snow.

So...I guess people do it?

@Seattlemom: so far we just haven't spent a lot of time outside when it's really cold. Or it will be in the stroller and she has a thick bundle me in there. She is 17 months and generally is in the stroller going places, so we only play in the playground. She has a nice warm coat and we have snow boots but no snow pants. I'd like to get a really cheap pair for playing in the snow but glad to hear maybe it's not necessary.

@mrs. wagon: @rachiecakes: okay makes sense, I guess it would be annoying to buy a snow suit and a winter coat each year.

@Seattlemom: depends on how much time you're spending outside. If you're playing in the snow? Definitely a snowsuit. If you're just in and out, short walks, etc. I just put J in thick pants, thick socks and a coat. In his 3 years he's never been in a snowsuit and we have gone sledding, but didn't spend that much time (under an hour) outside.
He does ice skate regularly and for outdoor rinks, he does where an under-layer (like leggings) and jeans or athletic pants.

@Seattlemom: I like the separate snow pants and coat so that they can wear the coat out and about when they're not necessarily in the snow. We only use the snow pants when they're going to be outside for say, more than 15 minutes or so. Which is really only during playtime at daycare (so we leave them in their cubbies during the week) or on the weekends.

I live in NYC and store both strollers in my apt which is annoying. If I had a car, I would definitely store them there.

Thanks all for responding. I am glad to hear the freezing temps aren't a problem. We don't really have an inside spot that would be easy to store the stoller in, so I'd much rather keep it in the car.

@Foodnerd81: @rachiecakes: @mrs. wagon: thanks boston ladies! I keep thinking of random questions like this as we acclimate to this region! Here is another one:

If its reeeally cold but not snowy do you find it easier to put your kids in a full on snow suit to keep them warm? Or snow pants + a coat. My LO is 19 months.

Ours is in the trunk a good chunk of the time, through 1-1/2 winters so far. Nothing bad has happened yet.

My stroller (BOB) has been in the trunk for 3 years and it's in great condition.
We don't have a garage or a vestibule, so it's really the only place we can store it.

I keep out vista in our garage, which is cold but definitely not freezing. But I know a lot of people in boston who store theirs in their car on the street. I think as long as it isn't exposed to the elements, like rain, snow, salt, it's fine.

I have a Bugaboo Cameleon, which is two pieces. I store the frame in the vestibule, which is cold like a garage, and the seat in a closet in the foyer. I keep our Yoyo (umbrella stroller) inside because it has more bits to stick in the cold, and it's one piece so harder to clean if it gets muddy or salty in the vestibule.

This is kind of random, but we just moved to Boston which is MUCH colder then our old town. I usually store our City Mini stroller in my car. Is that a bad idea if it goes under freezing most days of the winter? Maybe it will breakdown the plastic more quickly or something, I don't know.

I want the stroller to last a while so just trying to figure out if I should keep it inside instead!
