@kml636: yes. He ended up getting a set of tubes at 14.5 months because he ended up getting 2 back to back ear infections. The procedure went really well, and was very quick. He was ear infection free until 5 months after his surgery. He's had 3 since(he's 23 months old). The ENT said that the tubes are doing their job though, because they are draining the fluid. Hope your lo feels better. Ear infections bite :(

@GrapeCrush: Did your LO end up getting the tubes and how did it go? My LO just had her 3rd ear infection in about 4 months. She's 16 months old, and I know after the last one she did have fluid...

It was more focused on frequency than total number for C. He had 4 within a 2 month period starting at 5.5 months. He was sent to a pediatric ENT for evaluation and had his hearing tested again. He only had like 40% of his hearing available to him because of all the fluid, even though it wasn't infected at that appointment. Because he was at an age where he really needed hearing to keep hitting milestones, he got tubes at 8 months.

It doesn't hurt anything to get an ENT's opinion so I would go ahead and ask for a recommendation and take the initiative to take your LO with or without your pediatrician's referral.

if you're LO has tubes in their ears, how many ear infections did they have before getting them?

DS has had 4(confirmed) ear infections, he's almost 14 months old. he had his first 3 at 5 months, 7 months and 8 months. the last one was at 13 months. originally after the 8 month one the doctor said that they were going to send him to an ENT if he got another one, but didn't after the last one because it came 5 months after the one prior. we are suspecting that he's either got another ear infection, or the last one didn't clear up.......

calling the doctor today to get him in. if it is an ear infection, i'm gonna push for him to see an ENT.
