The ribbon style I ended up with is actually super easy to create. Just need a decorating tip for making ribbons and it pretty much does the job for you. There are how to videos online. The hardest part is actually making the buttercream frosting (maybe because I didn't have success with it in the past) but my friend walked me through the steps and this one came out great. You can certainly do ombré with this as well but will just require more time making the different colors.
