I've had 4 CPs and I have two kids (trying for #3 now). I've also had every test available at the time done by two different REs and they never found anything actionable but I seriously doubt it's luck. I have some immune issues so my personal take is it's some immune thing they can't test for yet ... and I have to keep trying until I get a pregnancy/embryo/etc that can make it through that issue. At least that's what I'm telling myself right now because I'm worried we'll go through more trying for #3!

I've had 4 CPs. After the 3rd, we had a full work-up done with Boston IVF since we had spent a year trying for LO #2. They found no genetic issues, but some of my thyroid and heart-related tests were close to the line although technically fine. The doctor thought that it could be a combination of things leading to repeated loss, but since no one thing needed intervention, we should keep trying knowing that we were likely to fact more losses in the future. Obviously, this was not the advice we wanted, but we did eventually get pregnant with #2 and are now are few weeks away from delivery.

@winniebee: I was too! Haha. Pancreatic fatigue (insulin resistance), the MTHFR stuff. Then just everything from iron, vit absorption, etc. to thyroid function. Most of it was like a foreign language, and my doctor just sent notes about values that were outside of the normal range. My cholesterol was low, but I don't eat any, which explains that. :)

@winniebee: I will say the full test showed me some things not related to my reproductive health ... it was crazy how much information I received (9 pages of different values and tests).

@winniebee: My doc sent my bloodwork into a specific lab, which charges $4,500 for the test. BUT, the lab doesn't charge you any more than your insurance is willing to pay for. So, it was free. The test was super-comprehensive.

It was the CV Assessment Panel by Health Diagnostic Laboratory.

@FaithFertility: There is so much out there on MTHFR. I was prescribed 4mg folic acid (but that was because of having an NTD affected pregnancy). I also take Honest Co prenatal which has folate in the direct form, since there's some info out there that if you have MTHFR you can't absorb folic acid as well (which is a synthetic form of folate). Again, my doctors have all cried hogwash, but I wanted extra protection.

@winniebee: @littlejoy: I was prescribed Vitapearl it is timed released and has more folic acid then most
Since MTHFR has to do with vitamin absorbtion!

Regarding MTHFR - because I have had many losses plus a baby with a neural tube defect I pressed for testing, but MFM doctor, OB, and geneticist all poo poo'd it, in part because I had two healthy kids. However, in addition to taking a prescription dose of folic acid, this pregnancy I also took a multi-vitamin with methylfolate in it and tried to eat as much direct folate I could in first tri etc.

@FaithFertility: Not that I know of ... my MD's recommendation was one with methylated components.

I had an early loss at 4.5 weeks, and a 38 day cycle that ended up being a CP (I saw a light line on 1 test). I've had 1 successful pregnancy/birth, and I'm currently 12 weeks pregnant.

The only thing I know of that could impact my losses is having a double MTHFR mutation. It can cause recurrent loss ... but with that said, I didn't really do anything differently between the losses and successful pregnancies. I am on a great prenatal, but I believe I was on a prenatal for all of the pregnancies (minus the CP).

@knittylady: I had 2 in a row after our first 2 IUI
My RE checked me for Urea plasma and I had the bacteria in my culture it can cause inflammation in uterus started antibiotics for that
I also just found out I have MTHFR so started baby aspirin to help with inflamtion and clots
The months I started both we went on a cruise and I got pg with my DD that month I truly think that helped me!

Looking back who knows how many CPs I had :( I only knew about the 2 due to Beta tests at RE

A combination, I think.

The one I had before DS1 was probably just bad luck.

I had 4 after DS2 - however, I was still nursing. My doctor didn't think nursing was the problem but I suspect otherwise. Had a repeat loss panel done, which showed low AMH (which sometimes can suggest low ovarian reserve / poor egg quality). My mom had menopause at 40 and at the time I was 35. aHad an appt. with fertility specialist scheduled but then stopped nursing and got and stayed pregnant with our third son....the pregnancy ended much later but was truly a fluke issue. Tried again 5 months after that loss and got and stayed pregnant immediately.

So for us, maybe AMH was an issue, maybe not. Maybe nursing was a problem, maybe not. I think it was a combo of bad luck, nursing, and low AMH.

I had one early miscarriage before getting pregnant with my daughter. Since she turned one in august, I've had:
-one early miscarriage at 6.5 weeks
-one miscarriage/cp at 5 weeks, but with spitting starting at 4 weeks
-one funky cycle that I suspect was a cp
-one cp at 4 weeks with a faintly positive test and the start of my period on the same day
-I am now seemingly successfully pregnant, 8 weeks on Saturday

I am still breastfeeding my toddler, at bedtime and if she wakes up at night. After my last cp, I called my midwife's office and asked if I could have tests run to check my hormone levels and make sure everything was ok. 3 losses in 3 months is not normal. I suspected low progesterone. My midwife's office said it wouldn't do any good to test progesterone at random, since it fluctuates so much throughout your cycle. All they wanted to do was have me come in for a physical exam. I was not happy.

Since I believed pretty strongly that it was low progesterone, I researched how to increase progesterone naturally. I figured it couldn't hurt. Apparently there are some studies that show that certain vitamins are key in progesterone production. I tried to make sure I was eating a well rounded diet with vitamin rich foods. I also started taking magnesium, a b complex, and vitamin c in addition to my prenatal.

I don't know for sure if the dietary changes and vitamins increased my progesterone, or helped my body be healthier and more capable of sustaining a pregnancy. And I'm not trying to offer medical advice, just my own experience. But I feel good, and am thrilled to finally have some hope of a second baby.

Following this....just had my 3rd loss and although I had some preliminary blood work done after my 2nd miscarriage my doctor is offering more in depth testing once my hormones regulate. Not sure what that testing involves though...
