I think it's just the age. H is 3 weeks old and has just started being awake for longer stretches and having more gas/spit up etc. Also in the middle of a growth spurt, so there's that. Either way, no way can I give up coffee right now. It's the only way I can remain a somewhat functioning parent to my toddler ;)

@sorrycharlie: I never noticed that caffeine made a difference. But I do remember, with both girls, that 3-4 weeks old was a time when they started to be alert and awake.

@meredithNYC: Nope - I drank about a cup a day while pregnant! So I don't *think* she's sensitive to it, but I wasn't sure if a sensitivity would show in tummy troubles or as if they had some coffee themselves lol

@sorrycharlie: did you cut out coffee altogether while pregnant? I pretty much did with LO #1 and always wondered if getting back to drinking coffee post-birth affected her.

With this pregnancy I'm drinking a cup of coffee/day and hoping that baby #2 won't be as sensitive to caffeine.

I noticed it when pregnant. If I have caffeinated coffee then the baby is super kicky. It makes me feel guilty enough that I stick to decaf or "1/4 caff". I just kept it up through nursing too because I figured it would have the same results.

I never noticed it keeping my kids awake, but it did cause DS to spit up like a waterfall. He was even sensitive to my eating dark chocolate! At 9 months I can finally drink coffee again and it.is.glorious!

I drank caffeine (about 1 cup of coffee in the early days) and wondered often if it was making my baby fussy. But in hindsight, I'm going to say no....because long after she was off breastmilk entirely, we still had sleep issues and other digestive issues.

I guess you'll only know if you stop it for a couple of weeks, though!

no answer but I am following! I'm also wondering if caffeine is a problem (but I neeeeeed it right now so I hope not). 3 weeks as well. wakefulness is not a problem overall (I don't think) but fussiness is, seems to be digestive related. I'm also worried about spicy foods and too much dairy. sigh.

did you notice it in belly issues (gas, irritability, poop problems) or your baby being wide awake?

just curious. I recently started drinking coffee again (like, half a mug a day, cold. sad.) and thinking it happens to coincide with my 3 week old being more wakeful anyway.
