As a nanny I can't say I have ever had a problem figuring this out. Some kids have gotten drowsy enough while taking the bottle that I can either lay them down like that or I can bounce/rock them the rest of the way down. Others have dinner more of the eat, awake, sleep schedule and we typically find a method of rocking and then patting or something similar.

I would give your nanny a few pointers and then expect the first week to have crummy naps. They will quickly find their groove though and then it should be smooth sailing.

Good luck!

The nanny put her down in the pack 'n play and pats her back - she figured it out after about 2 days. She goes down much easier and quicker for the nanny than she does for me now. (Probably because they are on much more of a routine schedule at the nanny share than we are on the weekends.)

When she was an infant my mom would time the bottles and she would nap after she had a bottle with some rocking. Now that she's a real toddler (almost 2) she doesn't nap till I get home. I have to figure out a new nap strategy.

My son naps in a swing at daycare, grant it they are short naps but we'll take it.

I agree, they do different things for different people.

Our LO just figured it out. She took bottles easily and our nanny would rock her to sleep and then put her in bed. And then when we switched to a nanny share, our former nanny couldn't rock both girls to sleep, so LO learned how to nap in the pack and play, the nanny would just pat her on the back.

I think kids adapt and sleep differently for different people.

My DH/MIL would rock DS1 while giving him a bottle and he would fall asleep the same as nursing. Good luck!

DD#2 is 9 weeks old. She will be getting a nanny 2 days a week starting at 12 weeks old. Until now, I've nursed her to sleep because it works and she sleeps 8+ hours at night. I'm starting to really worry about leaving her though... naps will be an issue.

If you did the same, how did baby do? Did she just figure it out? She takes a bottle okay but seems to need me to nap.
