Oh, and I kept nursing to sleep for naps for another week or two so she wouldn't be totally overtired come bedtime, since it's harder forthem to fall asleep for naps, especially as the day goes on.

@Mrs. Yoyo: yes, I stopped nursing or rocking to sleep at night first. We started a routine of diaper change and pjs, sleep sack, book, then singing twinkle twinkle while nursing to sleep (or bouncing if nursing didn't work) to get her used to a routine. Then I started nursing her in the living room with lights on, then bring her into her room and doing the diaper, pjs, book. Sleep sack, and holding her while singing twinkle twinkle. So the routine was mostly the same but nursing was first. (We don't do bath every night so it's not part of the routine. It's maybe ten minutes after I'm done nursing.

I only have one- I can only imagine solo parenting and having a toddler is very difficult!

Bumping for more advice ... Anyone?

@Foodnerd81: when you did CIO for nights, do you mean you stopped nursing to sleep then, first? What did your nighttime routine look like? Part of the reason I'm in this jam is that I solo parent a lot at bedtime and I can't do anything long or elaborate with a toddler on the loose, too.

Baby is in the crib right now completely awake after I tried to nurse him down and failed. I'm sure the screaming will start soon.

We had to stop nursing to sleep when she stopped staying asleep when I transferred her. We had to do some CIO but it wasn't too, too horrible (haha I say that now.) For us, what worked was to do it first for bed time-- CIO, only took a couple of days for her to get it. But we ended up keeping nursing to sleep for naps just so she would get the day time sleep. Then after a couple of weeks of solidly going down by herself at bed, we did it for naps too and it went much smoother. Eventually her naps lengthened as well, since she could stir and settle herself, where before, she would stir and be like, where's mom? Where's the boob?!?! She was actually exactly 4.5 months when we did it for naps.

... any tips? LO is 4.5 months and I don't mind nursing to sleep at night. But he had a rough transition from the RNP and nursing to sleep was the only way I could get him to nap in his crib. Well, I'm still doing it, it's becoming less reliable, and he's only napping for a half hour (I know this may just be the age, too). It also takes FOREVER (he's slow) which isn't good considering I have a toddler, too.

So. If you broke this habit -- any words of advice? We use white noise, dark room, sleep sack, etc ...
