I do $25 for an hour. Our sitters charge $12-14 an hour.

@Littlebit7: she's super sweet and laid back, she's ok with only coming an hour but I'd want to pay her more than what we normally would! @californiadreams: less than $10, yes. I'll see if I can think of something to do...but also don't mind just paying her some extra since it's short notice anyway, and saves us the hassle!

Maybe time and half? If you're going to double you might as well use the extra time to even sit in the car and chat! Or go to a local coffee shop and get a small cup of coffee. Go grocery shopping, do something! :P

i agree that if you want or will pay extra, i would use that time to yourself somehow. even if you can't afford to do anything - can you go for a walk, or even get a cheap coffee date somewhere you spend like $3 total? how much do u pay her per hour? if you really want to come back after an hour and say she costs less than $10, then maybe i would round up to $10, but not necessarily double it.

@Bao: she probably won't mind if she said she's available? You could always just ask her directly if she minds only staying an hour and see what she thinks. Maybe give her a few dollars extra or "round up". If I think back to my 15 year old self I'd probably be ok with it!!

@Littlebit7: we don't have money to go out and do anything, otherwise we would! We will go for an hour, come back and I'll put the girls to bed while DH takes her home.

I make it longer so it's worth MY while, ha. Tack on a lunch out, maybe run an errand sans baby, get a haircut?. That way everyone wins.

Do you pay them just for that hour, or more to make it worth their time?

We have a funeral visitation to go to on Thursday, and obviously aren't bringing the girls. My mom babysits 90% of the time, but the visitation is 3 blocks from us and my mom lives 8 miles away, so packing the girls up in the snow to go there for an hour isn't worth it. We asked our occasional sitter if she's available and she is. She's 15 so we pick her up and she's not too much per hour, but I'm wondering if we double it? More? Not sure how to handle it since it's only an hour, and I would feel bad just giving her that amount.
