It was worth it for us because then we could get exactly what we wanted. We used the same seat for our second and she can still fit in it at 19 mo. Had a convertible seat been purchased for her during pregnancy we would have lost over 2 years off the expiration date (we did switch her around 14 mo to a convertible but she still uses the infant seat as our extra seat). Our infant seat is also one with a much smaller weight and height limit compared to the one you are registering for, so we would have gotten even more use out of yours.
